Foaming powders

As shown in Figures 1.36(a) and 1.36(b), the glycine nitrate process-derived powder is highly porous. The pore size ranges from tens of nanometers to several micrometers. The powder is thus named as foam powder, which shows extremely low fill densities of less than 1/100 of the theoretical density value. The low fill density makes it possible to prepare thin films of doped ceria by dry pressing, in which the films are processed by means of punches in a hardened metal die. Figures 1.36(c) and 1.36(d) show a cross-sectional view of an 8 /tm-thick GDC film fabricated by dry pressing. [Pg.46]

Phenolic Resin-Based Syntactic Foam. Powdered phenolic resin and phenolic resin microspheres are blended in a blender to make a flowable mixture, which is then poured into a mold and cured at 120°C for 2 hours. The resulting syntactic foam has a density of 0.16 to 0.24 g/cm. ... [Pg.155]

These characteristics make the planetary gear extruders well suited for processing heat-sensitive materials such as rigid and flexible PVC. They are also used to process blends (eg, PVC and ABS), plastic foams, powder coatings, epoxy, polyester, acrylic, polyurethane, chlorinated polyethylene, etc. [Pg.3027]

Flexible polyurethane foam generated in production or recovered after use as seating foam or packaging foam can be recycled by shredding and mixing with a polyurethane binder to produce carpet imderlay. Annually, ca 70 kt/a of carpet imderlay produced in the United States is made from recycled flexible foam. Powdered flexible foam is also used as filler (up to 30%) in the manufacture of flexible foam products. [Pg.6702]

Plastic samples were pulverized with a blender and then mortar and pedestal. ASTM D6691-09 allows for testing of plastic products in the form of him, foam, powder, or fragments of molded product. According to ASTM, powder samples should have a mean particle size of less than 25 mm. Our powder samples had a mean particle size less than 25 mm based on visual observahons. CO2 biogas was measured with a PASCO detector with computer-controlled equipment as shown in Figure E.l. The samples are kept in an oven and held at 30°C for 26 weeks according to ASTM standards. [Pg.304]
