Floor overlays

These are used to produce prepackaged products such as decorative wall coatings, ceramic tile adhesives, selfleveling floor overlays and patching mortars for concrete structures. On site, addition of the product manufacturers specified amount of water produces a material with the... [Pg.347]

Polypropylene and nylon FRC have been applied to non-structural and non-primary load-bearing applications. They are commonly employed in residential, commercial, and industrial products, such as slabs for composite metal deck construction, floor overlays, shotcrete for slope stabilization and pool construction, precast units, slip form curbs, and mortar applications involving sprayed and plastered Portland cement stucco (Krenchel and Shah, 1985 Zollo and Hays, 1991). [Pg.569]

Polymeric overlays are used on concrete pavements to protect them from dust, excessive wear, cracking, crazing, spalling and to provide an attractive appearance. These materials are applied on concrete pavements in the form of screeds, self-levelling material or floor coatings. Epoxies, polyurethanes and acrylics are commonly used, epoxies being the most commonly chosen. Table 1.4 gives the suitability of these materials for different environments. [Pg.19]

If the mass transfer coefficient is sufficiently low, the emission will be so slow that the ventilation can manage to remove the formaldehyde at almost the same rate as it is liberated, resulting in a very low formaldehyde concentration in the air. This presentation deals with what can be achieved in terms of reduced mass transfer coefficient and emission rate by applying some sort of diffusion barrier to the surface of the particleboard. The diffusion barriers studied comprise overlays or surface finishes commonly applied when particleboard is used as a building material, such as wall paper, painting and floor covering, but even overlays that are used by the furniture and joinery industries, such as veneers, melamine facing and resin saturated paper foils (finish foils). [Pg.204]

Because they are relatively expensive, epoxy polymers have not been used very widely as binders in PC products. Therefore, epoxy PC is used for special applications, in situations in which the higher cost can easily be justified, such as mortar for industrial flooring to provide physical and chemical resistance, skid-resistant overlays (filled with sand, emery, pumice, quartz) in highways, epoxy plaster for exterior walls (e.g., in exposed aggregate panels), and resurfacing material for deteriorated areas (e.g., in flooring). Epoxy PC reinforced with glass, carbon, or boron fibers is used in the fabrication of translucent panels, boat hulls, and automobile bodies [2,6],... [Pg.5]

In clinical use, the standard approach for dealing with this problan is to place the composite in layers of a maximum thickness of 2mm within the cavity [8]. This is generally considered sufficient to ensure that there is adequate cure all the way through the layer. It is also helpful in mitigating problans caused by contraction of the material as aresult of polymerization (for further information on this, see Section 3.3). Various techniques have been proposed for exactly how this incremental build-up should be done in cUnical practice, involving different patterns of overlaying and variations in orientation with respect to the floor of the cavity [17,18]. However, no one method appears to be ideal and there is no clinical evidence that any particular method is superior to any other [8]. [Pg.40]

Applications of polymer mortars and polymer concretes include patching of Portland cement concrete, floor and pavement overlays, anti-corrosive linings, precast products, vaults, panels [8,11]. These indicate that there is no single polymer concrete that performs all of these tasks. Application and performance of polymer concrete depend on the binder used and the aggregate. Copolymerisation techniques allow the production of a wide range of binders with varying properties [11]. [Pg.130]

Styrene-butadiene latex is used as an admixture for materials applied to the repair of concrete structures, for protective overlays and for industrial floors. A typical application would be for the repair of bridge decks damaged by de-icing agents and freeze-thaw cycles. The PCC is also applied for special purposes, such as protective spray-on coatings for various kinds of structures or decorative elements. The latex is added as 5% and 20% of cement mass during mixing. If the latex content is below 5% of cement mass the term PMC is used instead of PCC. [Pg.467]
