Fitting reducer

Another wheel-to-shaft attachment uses a tapered fit (Figure 5-11, right portion). A center stretch rod constantly pulls each wheel onto the shaft. Should the wheel bore grow, the wheel remains centered and is drawn axially up the shaft taper. The tapered fit reduces galling risk during assembly and disassembly. [Pg.288]

Ignition sources in the cupboard and duct system should be avoided. Plastic fans, electrical sockets external to the cupboard, and explosion-proof light fittings reduce the likelihood of ignitions. [Pg.887]

Solid Lines Solid lines do not leak as readily as hoses, which develop leaks from vibration, repeated pressure changes, bending, and aging. Where lines must come close to people, solid lines and tight, well-maintained fittings reduce the chances of a leak. [Pg.283]

Keep physically active. Physical fitness reduces stress, helps impose a regular sleeping pattern, and can result in a deeper, healthier sleep. [Pg.46]

Other functional forms of z in Eq. (1.25) have been also used in order to obtain the best fit reducing the number of coefficients (/) (Chap. 3.5.6). [Pg.5]

Ultimately we may want to make direct comparisons with experimental measurements made on specific materials, in which case a good model of molecular interactions is essential. The aim of so-called ab initio molecular dynamics is to reduce the amount of fitting and guesswork in this process to a minimum. On the other hand, we may be interested in phenomena of a rather generic nature, or we may simply want to discriminate between good and bad theories. When it comes to aims of this kind, it is not necessary to have a perfectly realistic molecular model one that contains the essential physics may be quite suitable. [Pg.2241]

When fitting two structures, the aim is to find the relative orientations of the two molecules in which the RMSD is a minimum. Many methods have been devised to perform this seemingly irmocuous calculation. Some algorithms, such as that described by Ferro and Hermans [Ferro and Hermans 1977] use an iterative procedure in which the one molecule is moved relative to the other, gradually reducing the RMSD. Other methods locate the best fit directly, such as Kabsch s algorithm [Kabsch 1978]. [Pg.507]

It has already been pointed out that a liquid even when subjected to simple atmospheric distillation may become superheated and then bump violently in consequence this danger is greatly increased during distillation under reduced pressure and therefore a specially designed flask, known as a Claisen flask, is used to decrease the risk of superheating. In Fig. i2(a) a Claisen flask D is shown, fitted up as part of one of the simplest types of vacuum-distillation apparatus. ... [Pg.28]

Add 15 g, of chloroacetic acid to 300 ml. of aqueous ammonia solution d, o-88o) contained in a 750 ml. conical flask. (The manipulation of the concentrated ammonia should preferably be carried out in a fume-cupboard, and great care taken to avoid ammonia fumes.) Cork the flask loosely and set aside overnight at room temperature. Now concentrate the solution to about 30 ml. by distillation under reduced pressure. For this purpose, place the solution in a suitable distilling-flask with some fragments of unglazed porcelain, fit a capillary tube to the neck of the flask, and connect the flask through a water-condenser and receiver to a water-pump then heat the flask carefully on a water-bath. Make the concentrated solution up to 40 ml. by the addition of water, filter, and then add 250 ml. of methanol. Cool the solution in ice-water, stir well, and set aside for ca. I hour, when the precipitation of the glycine will be complete. [Pg.130]
