Fischer-Tropsch wax

Fischer-Tropsch Waxes. Polymethylene wax [8002-74-2] production is based on the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, which is basicaHy the polymerisation of carbon monoxide under high pressure and over special catalysts to produce hydrocarbons (see Fuels, synthetic-liquid fuels). [Pg.317]

Fig. 11. DSC of miciocryslalline, paraffinic, and Fischer-Tropsch waxes on the reheat cycle. Samples were first heated to 175°C, then cooled to —50°C, followed by reheating to 175°C, all at 20°C/min. Heat of fusion for each is shown in the legend. Fig. 11. DSC of miciocryslalline, paraffinic, and Fischer-Tropsch waxes on the reheat cycle. Synthetic waxes consist of Fischer-Tropsch, polyethylene, and specialty waxes. Fischer-Tropsch waxes are produced from synthesis gas (CO and H2). They are often termed synthetic paraffin . Crystallinity is similar to paraffin, but with a higher and bimodal melting point (see Figs. 11 and 12). F-T waxes are used instead of paraffin where higher heat resistance is needed. [Pg.726]

Synthetic hydrocarbon waxes prepared by the water-gas synthesis in which carbon monoxide (CO) is reduced by hydrogen (H2) under pressure, at a predesenbed temperature, by means of a catalytic agent. (Fischer-Tropsch waxes F-T 200 and F-T 300 ). [Pg.1748]

Waxes Waxes were classically defined as esters of a fatty acid with a fatty alcohol (e.g. beeswax), but this no longer holds as many waxes are not covered by that definition [28], Therefore, a definition based on physical properties has been proposed [29], The global market for waxes is relatively small (estimated to be 3.4 million tons/year), comprising mainly natural, fossil paraffin waxes (90%) and synthetic polyolefin and Fischer-Tropsch waxes [28], So-called recent natural waxes (animal and plant waxes) make up a small percentage with only 28,000 tons/year. [Pg.97]

Laboratory Fischer-Tropsch synthesis tests were performed in a slurry-phase Constant Stirred Tank Reactor. The pre-reduced catalyst (20-30 g) was suspended in ca 300 ml molten Fischer-Tropsch wax. Realistic Fischer-Tropsch conditions were employed, i.e. 220 °C 20 bar commercial synthesis gas feed 50 vol% H2, 25 vol% CO and 25 vol% inerts synthesis gas conversion levels in excess of 50%. Use was made of the ampoule sampling technique as the selected on-line synthesis performance monitoring method [23]. [Pg.57]

In the long term, it is conceivable that multiple analyses may be avoided when characterizing samples by simply running a 13C NMR. Some additional examples of the application of 13C NMR to isomerization of Fischer-Tropsch wax are given in Chapter 12. [Pg.97]

An obvious new source of highly refined waxes is from Fischer-Tropsch wax—this type of wax is already on the market from Shell s Bintulu plant in Malaysia, and it undoubtedly will be upgraded, if it has not been already, to meet FDA standards and equivalent ones from other countries. It will be unique in its properties because of the near-complete absence of isoparaffins and the heavy waxes will contain no naphthene components that give microcrystalline waxes their properties. [Pg.350]
