Metallocene-catalysed PE (mPE) grades are firmly established in almost all PE film applications. This class of raw materials plays an important role in the production of stretch films, heavy-duty bags, and laminating films. For heavy-duty film bags, processors have succeeded in reducing the minimum film thickness from 180 to 120 [xm by employing mPE in the last few years. Apart from the improvement in raw material, the trend towards three layer co-extrusion has certainly contributed to this application. [Pg.114]

Films deposited from compounded nitrile latices can be vulcanized with sulfur and accelerators, assisted by relatively high levels (ca 4.0—5.0 parts /100 DRC) of ziac oxide. For other uses, nitrile latices are sometimes used ia unvulcanized form. An appHcation of medium soHds nitrile latex, eg, Nitrex J-6849 and Polysar 845, has been ia preparation of oil-resistant foams for lubricants ia heavy-duty beariags, such as railroad-car journal boxes. [Pg.255]

With binary copper—lead, the continuous copper phase provides the primary load support while pockets of 20—50% lead supply a continuous lead surface film. Tin content of 3—5% is commonly incorporated with the lead to minimi2e corrosion. Copper—lead alloys, either cast or sintered on a steel back, provide good fatigue resistance for heavy-duty main and connecting rod bearings for auto, tmck, diesel, and aircraft engines. [Pg.4]

Metal or metal oxides may be added to perform specific functions. Brass chips and copper powder are frequently used in heavy-duty organics where these metaUics act as scavengers to break up undesirable surface films. Zinc chips used in Class A organics contribute significantly to recovery of normal performance following fade. Aluminum is also used. Most of these inorganic materials tend to detract from antinoise properties and mating surface compatibihty. [Pg.274]

This stretching, similar to the drawing of fibres, which promotes orientation and crystallite formation, is called biaxial orientation. It gives the film added strength and gas-barrier properties. In some processes, monoaxial (uniaxial) drawing is employed, e.g., polypropylene, which is then slit into thin strips and fabricated into heavy duty sacks, carpet backing, etc. The stenter process is used to make biaxial oriented poly(vinylidene dichloride) ("ding" film), polyester, polyamide and polypropylene films. [Pg.80]

Nylon can be sterilised with steam so it is sued in hypodermic syringes and surgical accessories. Curtain runners, sinks, zips, combs and switches are manufactured from nylon. Extruded nylon is used in covering wire ropes, in packaging film for pharmaceuticals, bottles, tubing, etc. Nylon laminates are used for heavy duty driving belts. Monofilaments are used in brushes, sports equipment, surgical sutures, etc. Monofilaments are prepared from nylon 6, 10 or nylon 11. [Pg.217]

Films and sheets with high clarity, puncture resistance, impact strength, low heat-seal temperature used for shrink-wrap, heavy-duty shipping sacks, produce bags, bag-in-box food and technical packaging films... [Pg.57]

While chains having molecular weights of a few thousands only form brittle waxes, polyethylenes having molar masses of above hundred thousand show much better mechanical properties. They can be processed into films, pipes, and other performance products. When molar mass is further increased up to several millions, even higher impact strengths and abrasion resistances are achieved which enable these materials to be used in heavy-duty applications like skating floors and artificial hips. [Pg.4]

A variable field d-c motor generator was used by the submitters. In lieu of such equipment, the checkers used a 120-volt d-c source with a heavy-duty resistor in the circuit. Occasionally, a film of polymeric material may form on the anode and reduce the current flow. This condition may be corrected by reversing the current flow for a period of 5-10 seconds. A suitable control circuit is diagrammed in Fig. 1. [Pg.82]

The main feature of the resins from the single-autoclave process is a broader molecular-weight distribution, which gives excellent properties for shrink-films and heavy duty packaging. [Pg.252]

The soaps of the ethanolamines are extensively used in textile treating agents, in shampoos, and emulsifiers. The fatty acid amides of diethanolamine are applied as builders in heavy-duty detergents, particularly those in which alkylaryl sulfonates are the surfactant ingredients. The use of triethanolamine in photographic developing baths promotes fine grain structure in the film when developed. [Pg.210]

Vinyl wallcoverings were introduced in the fifties but at that time were made by laminating calendered vinyl film or sheet to a woven textile backing. This gave tough, durable but relatively expensive coverings satisfactory for heavy-duty commercial or contract purposes but used only rarely for domestic decoration. [Pg.281]
