Shrink film

Polyethylene shrink film wrapping of cormgated ftberboard trays is in common use outside of the United States. Equipment erects the trays, fills the trays with primary packages such as cans or jars, wraps the grouping in shrink film, and heat shrinks the combination. Shrink film wrapping keeps primary and secondary packaging materials clean and dry. [Pg.450]

Oriented polypropylene film (OPP) may be classified as heat-set and non-heat-set, blown and tentered, coextmded and coated. Orientation improves the cold-temperature resistance and other physical properties. Heat-set biaxially oriented polypropylene film (BOPP) is the most widely used protective packagiag film ia the United States. It is used to wrap bakery products, as lamination pHes for potato and com chips, and for pastas and numerous other flexible pouch and wrapping appHcations. Nonheat-set OPP is used as a sparkling, transparent shrink-film overwrap for cartons of candy. [Pg.452]

With the development of the new Ecoflex FS, new performance characteristics have been achieved in addition to improved biodegradabUity and bio-based content. This new Ecoflex FS is used for the development of new Ecovio compounds for specific applications like paper coating and shrink film. Further Ecovio applications, where biodegradability adds value, are under development to extend the portfolio of BASF. [Pg.134]

With rotation moulding T is very small a narrow distribution may then be preferred, also because a higher favours the impact strength etc. With film extrusion a broad distribution is advantageous for making very thin films and for the elastic effects M ) required in shrink films a narrow distribution results in better tear strength and impact resistance M ). [Pg.26]

Secondly a broader MMD leads to a higher value of M, the average which is mainly responsible for the elastic behaviour of the melt, and thus for the recoil after deformation and solidification. These frozen-in rubber-elastic deformations cause the behaviour of shrink-films. [Pg.49]

Further, they can be used for medical purposes, such as press-through packages, disposable syringes, liquid medicine vials, and infusion bags. They are suitable for electric or electronic materials, such as wire coating. In addition, packaging films, such as wrapping films, stretch films, shrink films, and blister packs can be produced. [Pg.18]

The main feature of the resins from the single-autoclave process is a broader molecular-weight distribution, which gives excellent properties for shrink-films and heavy duty packaging. [Pg.252]

The term film is also applied to sheets of cellophane, polyethylene, polyvinylidene chloride, etc., used for wrapping and packaging of food products, meats, and poultry (especially shrink films that are stretched before application). These function as a moisture vapor harrier. Plaslic lilms are also used as slip surfaces in concrete structures such as airstrips, ice rinks, and highways. Photographic film is made from cellulose acetate. [Pg.633]

Copolymers of PE with vinylacetate, acrylic acid ester and methacrylic acid increase the heat sealability, adhesion to other materials and seal strength and they improve the polymer s cold resistance and transparency. EVA in the form of shrink films are well suited for meat packaging because of their relatively high gas permeabilities. [Pg.25]

In 2009, BASF launched Ecovio FS, a new biodegradable plastic used for coating paper and manufacturing shrink films. Both products contain higher percentages (75% and 66% respectively) of bio-based materials such as com, making them faster to break down in landfills. [Pg.45]
