The ChemLeg program, in turn, focused on closer cooperation between policy makers, industry experts and national federations to facilitate the implementation of these standards. The main indicators of achievement were the enlargement of CEFIC with new full and associate CEFIC members representing nine of the ten Central and Eastern Europe states that subsequently joined the European Union the creation of an influential regional network of chemical industry and active involvement in European advocacy on the part of federations from Central and Eastern Europe (Doktor 2002). The political dynamics of trans-European industry mobilisation, organisation at the domestic and European level, and alliances with supranational and domestic policy elites and experts developed in full swing and in support of the horizontal diffusion of EU chemical safety policies and norms. [Pg.277]

A critical aspect of chemical industry product labeling is the fact of government regulation of many of the products which are considered to be potentially hazardous to consumers and/or workers. Such products are subject to various federal, state and local laws and ordinances which in many instances mandate the inclusion of specific warnings on product labels. These warnings describe the hazards and inform the user as to proper use procedures, actions to be taken in the event of exposure to hazard, first aid or medical advice, and disposal procedures, all in addition to whatever other material the seller might wish to include on the product label. [Pg.9]

The scientific and engineering activity that makes use of professional modelling and simulation for Chemical Process Industries (CPI) is designated by Computed Aided Process Engineering (CAPE). Since 1991 the European Federation of Chemical Engineering organises each year a scientific congress of the worldwide CAPE community under the label ESCAPE. [Pg.34]

To improve this situation fundamental research is necessary in order to find general design procedures and limits of operation for the process which are independent of the particular column type. This can only be achieved through cooperation between researchers in industry and universities. The European Federation of Chemical Engineers established a Working Party in Extraction for this purpose which recommended liquid systems for testing extraction columns so that the results would be comparable. [Pg.637]

The irony of history is that massive state interventions guaranteed the expansion of the chemical industry in the mid-1930s. Again in the 1990s it was possible to maintain the "chemical triangle" only by state intervention. In view of the relatively equal distribution of chemical industries throughout the four zones of occupation after 1945, what had occurred up to 1990 was clear the largest chemical businesses of the Federal Republic maintained themselves very well in international competition, while most of the chemical plants of the GDR were in deplorable condition. [Pg.367]

Vapor-liquid equilibrium data are of great importance for optimum design of industrial separation units working under different conditions. With regard to fliis, the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (90ONK1) elaborated a list (Table 1.2) with phase properties of twelve recommended systems, typical for most cases which may be encountered, namely tiie systems ... [Pg.24]

This package was developed jointly by representatives from the chemical industry (CEFIC) and the distributing industry (FECC—European Federation of Chemical Distributors—http //www.fecc/org/). In contrast with other SQAS documents, this document is structured around the 8 Guiding Principles of the Responsible Care/Distribution Programme of the International Council of Chemical Trade Associations (ICCTA). These Principles and the corresponding 52 self-assessment questions have been made more explicit by integrating a number of more detailed questions. This makes it possible ... [Pg.88]
