Many resources were used to compile the information in this book. The hazardous chemicals listed here are taken from Sittig, 4th Edition. For a few chemicals in Sittig, their makers are not listed, perhaps because they are made in such limited quantities that they are sold through specialty middlemen and catalog houses. The primary resources for preparing the list of manufacturers in this book were (1) the Web sites of the companies, (2) membership in special sections of United States chemical societies, the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) and societies in India, Japan, Asia, Italy and elsewhere, and (3) sites in which companies register themselves as producers of particular products, such as the Thomas Directories in the U.S. and Europe, the American Chemical Society ChemCyclopedia, and the British Chemical Industries Association Chemextra. Direct access to these sites are quickly available to any Internet user. They are listed in Section VII - Hotlines, Databases and Useful Web Sites. 

These two aspects are also reflected in the visions developed on this issue in the United States in the so-called Vision 2020 program (see Appendix 1). One can see that all aspects of introducing step-by-step changes are mentioned. And in the European Union many current activities are based on the topic of process intensification, reflected, for example, in the European-Supported Research Projects (see Appendix 2). On the industrial side, a lot of effort is being given to the topic of process intensification the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) has process intensification as one of its technology focus points in the so-called SUSTECH program (see Appendix 3). 

Compared with other major European countries and the USA, the chemical industry in Germany has the best image. This is verified by the figures of the Pan-European Surveys carried out by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) since 1994 (Fig. 27.9).

In November 2000, the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) commented on the legal protection of traditional knowledge in a position paper.64 CEFIC began by acknowledging that the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is the appropriate body to deal with this issue and indicated that there are three separate issues to be dealt with ...

The response of the European chemical industry has been one of outrage, spearheaded by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC).
