Market expansion

Chlorine Capacity. In 1982 U.S. chlorine capacity reached a record high of 36,864 t/day (13.2 million tons per year) as shown in Eigure 1. After 1982, decreased chlorine demand lowered market prices and some producers discontinued production, so that capacity dropped to 31,888 t/day in 1987 (5). Expansion to meet demand led to an increased capacity in March of 1989 of 32,550 t/day (11.1 x 10 t/yr). [Pg.479]

The clinical use of plasma products varies widely between countries (Table 8) with commercial products being imported in some instances to meet demand. In the United States, the market for plasma products increased from 250,000,000 in 1980 to over 850,000,000 in 1991. This expansion resulted from a 60% increase in the use of albumin, a 70% increase in the use of Eactor X concentrate, and the introduction of intravenous immunoglobulin (IgG iv). The 1987 quantity of IgG iv was 10.7 kg per million population by 1991 this usage had increased approximately 220%. The introduction of highly... [Pg.533]

In the second quarter of the twentieth century, with the development of poly(vinyl chloride), nylon, polyurethane, and other polymers, many new and improved leather-like materials, so-called coated fabrics (qv), were placed on the market. Shortages of leather after World War 11 led to the expansion of these leather-like materials ("man-made" leathers) to replace leather in shoes, clothing, bags, upholstery, and other items. DurabiUty and waterproof quahties superior to leather made coated fabrics advantageous, in spite of imperfection in breathabihty and flexibiUty. Demands for shoes, clothing, and other items are stiU increasing due to growing world population and urbanization. [Pg.88]

It shows concisely the existing vendor capacities for the raw material, planned expansions or new producers, demands for other uses, and demand within the analyst s company. In some cases, the report includes a wodd supply and demand balance. A key objective of a purchase profile report is to make the buyer as well informed as the marketing manager of the seller. If this is achieved, the buyer can often secure a beneficial purchase contract. [Pg.538]

Disposable polypropylene nonwoven fabrics are widely used as the coverstock for disposable baby diapers. The expansion of the disposable diaper market throughout the world has been the primary source of growth in the consumption of polypropylene in the fiber market. In addition, nonwoven polypropylene fabrics are used in a variety of other disposable sanitary products, such as baby wipes, adult incontinence, and feminine hygiene products. Use of polypropylene nonwovens in disposable medical apparel, such as surgical gowns, has increased as a means of reducing the spread of infection. [Pg.421]

The tine industry has consistently supported sound scrap tine legislation at both the state and federal level to ensure that scrap tines are managed in environmentally responsible ways. The tine industry has been a consistent participant in the effort to find appropriate markets for scrap tines, and to promote the expansion of those markets. [Pg.12]

Other expansions of FDA s authority include the Dmg Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984, commonly known as the 1984 Amendments or the Waxman-Hatch Act, which was passed to attain quicker marketing of safe, effective, and less expensive generic dmgs and the Safe Medical Device Amendments of 1990, which was passed to correct perceived weaknesses in the implementation of the 1976 Device Amendments. Congress further expanded FDA authority over nutrition labeling and health and nutrient content claims on food labels with the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990. [Pg.83]

Japan, Canada, and the United States accounted for 70% of the 1995 estimated world production of 2000 t (Table 5). At least 100 t of selenium was also available to Western markets from the former Soviet bloc. Selenium production is expected to rise in South America, particularly Chile, as the copper industry continues rapid expansion. A considerable amount of unrefined selenium is also shipped to Chile and the Philippines for conversion to final commercial product by either hydrometaHurgical or distillation processes. [Pg.334]

In the manufacture of highly resident flexible foams and thermoset RIM elastomers, graft or polymer polyols are used. Graft polyols are dispersions of free-radical-polymerized mixtures of acrylonitrile and styrene partially grafted to a polyol. Polymer polyols are available from BASF, Dow, and Union Carbide. In situ polyaddition reaction of isocyanates with amines in a polyol substrate produces PHD (polyhamstoff dispersion) polyols, which are marketed by Bayer (21). In addition, blending of polyether polyols with diethanolamine, followed by reaction with TDI, also affords a urethane/urea dispersion. The polymer or PHD-type polyols increase the load bearing properties and stiffness of flexible foams. Interreactive dispersion polyols are also used in RIM appHcations where elastomers of high modulus, low thermal coefficient of expansion, and improved paintabiUty are needed. [Pg.347]

Table 6 shows the production of abrasive sihcon carbide in the United States and Canada (131). In 1988, four firms were producing cmde sihcon carbide under various trade names at six plants in the United States and Canada, The Exolon-ESK Co. General Abrasive/Dresser Co. Norton Co. and Superior Graphite Co. Most plants are located in areas where electrical power is, or at one time, was available at relatively low rates. Other considerations are availabihty of labor, reasonable air and water pollution standards, future expansion potential, and proximity of raw materials and markets. [Pg.467]

The initial uses of colorants in plastics were as extenders and additives. Carbon black and titanium dioxide were and are stiU used as fillers (qv) because of their low cost. Almost from plastics inception the limitation of black and white did not offer sufficient color choices for end users looking to differentiate their products. The increase in aesthetic requirements along with different performance requirements and resin compatibiUties led to a great expansion in the number of different chemical classes of colorants and forms in which these colorants are available in today s market. [Pg.456]

Using the PC for control requires installation of a board into the expansion slot in the computer, or the PC can be connected to an external I/O module using a standard communication port on the PC (RS-232, RS-422, or IEEE-488). The controller card/module supports 16- or 32-bit microprocessors. Standardization and high volume in the PC market has produced a large selection of hardware and software tools for PC controllers. [Pg.776]

Today, a network of more than 300,000 miles of interstate natural gas pipelines sei"vcs markets across the U.S, Construction of this network began in the 1920s, but large-scale expansion was limited by the technology of the day, the Great Depression and, finally. World War II. [Pg.835]

A considerable catalyst to the corrosion monitoring market has been expansion in the production of oil and gas, not only in the usual oil areas (US and the Middle East), but also the offshore developments in Europe. In addition to the usual uncertainty of the onset or progress of internal corrosion in the operation of plant, the oil industry has to face the considerable problem concerning prediction of field corrosivity and the possibility of the producing field becoming corrosive or more corrosive as depletion progresses. These factors have considerable influence on the installation of corrosion monitoring as oil and gas production is the major user of such equipment. [Pg.1130]
