Promotion market expansion

The tine industry has consistently supported sound scrap tine legislation at both the state and federal level to ensure that scrap tines are managed in environmentally responsible ways. The tine industry has been a consistent participant in the effort to find appropriate markets for scrap tines, and to promote the expansion of those markets. 

At the same time, tobacco companies were launching a massive public relations effort to persuade governments not to enact laws limiting tobacco promotion and advertising. As the industry faces efforts within the United States to decrease tobacco consumption, it has attempted to develop new and larger markets in other nations. These nations also face the threat of trade sanctions by the United States if they resist the tobacco industry s expansion. 

The massive expansion of the Chinese economy has had a profound impact on the production and use of commodity plastics in China. The first is the considerable growth in demand for polymer products which have outstripped local supply and as a consequence China is a major importer. This has had the effect of promoting large export oriented plants in other Asian countries, with large parts of their product slate destined for the Chinese market. China is now second to Japan in the amount of ethylene produced in the Far East. The Chinese nameplate capacity is almost 7 million tonnes/year. 

A major goal for promoting commercialization of the alcohol processing of waste particle board and plywood is the expansion of markets for alkyl levulinates. The major current market for alkyl levulinates is in fragrances, where the ethyl levulinate has a value of about 10/lb. Butyl levulinate is also used but the market is relatively small for both esters.
