Executive information system

It is important to define and contrast expert systems with classical decision support systems, executive information systems, and conventional software systems. First business needs are identified, then appropriate technologies are applied, similar to conventional systems. An analysis of the cost effectiveness of a proposed expert system is important.

In order to address the above issues and improve operational efficiency, Valvex implemented a supply chain execution information system— an e-supply chain management system (e-SCM). The system was obtained from a vendor named Excelvision. This system not only coordinates interactions with vendors and customers, but also deals with internal activities involved in warehousing and manufacturing operations. Figure 3 provides a schematic representation of the e-SCM system.

Unilever Latin America intends to grow Sinfonia and to incorporate supply chain, finance and human resource processes into the mix. Eventually, the data warehouse will feed a regional Balanced Scorecard application as an executive information system and assist in strategic business platming. This will happen by enabling existing data to be viewed according to possible future hierarchies. 

Some departments, such as marketing, accounting, distribution, human resources, information systems, legal, and operations, are common to most any organization. Each of these departments should have a department head who oversees its direction. The department head then reports to the chief executive officer (CEO) or another person at the top of the organization, such as a chief operating officer (COO) or president. 

Jeanne Ross and Pete Weill, affiliated with MIT s Center for Information Systems Research, identify six decisions that fall into the category of decisions not to be delegated. Information from the company s strategic plan and its information systems plan were used as guidelines for the study. Interviews with key executives provided insight where necessary. 

Aim of the data retrieval stage is to extract all relevant raw data from their respective sources. The user is usually able to execute these workflows as they are and has nothing to care about the technical details of the various data sources. Test results for biological activity can be retrieved in standardized format from the corporate compound database (CDB, cf. Section 13.2.1). Other data, such as the BioProfde (cf. Section 13.3.2), the library information for compounds originating from combinatorial soeening hbraries or hit quality check results have to be retrieved directly from different laboratory information systems or from the CIDB(cf. Section 13.2.2). Once all the relevant data have been retrieved, it is stored conveniently as a set of files. This easily accessible collection serves as foundation for all subsequent analyses.
