2-Ethylhexyl sebacate

Diesters have been produced primarily by esterification of a C -branched-chain alcohol with adipic (C ), a2elaic (C ), or sebacic (C q) diacid. Di(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate [122-62-3] was quite generally used in military greases and MIL-L-7808 jet engine oil, but more recent demands and price competition have led to use of a variety of diesters. [Pg.245]

The purity of the 2-cyclohexenone may be assayed by gas chromatography on an 8 mm. x 215 cm. column heated to 125° and packed with di-(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate suspended on ground firebrick. This method of analysis indicates that the 3-cyclo-hexenone in the product amounts to no more than 3%. The fore-run from this fractional distillation contains substantial amounts of 2-cyclohexenone accompanied by ether, ethanol, and minor amounts of other lower-boiling impurities. Additional quantities of pure 2-cyclohexenone can be recovered by redistillation of this fore-run. The preparation of 2-cyclohexenone has been run on twice the scale described with no loss in yield. The ultraviolet spectrum of an ethanol solution of the 2-cyclohexenone obtained has a maximum at 226 m/i (s = 10,400). [Pg.15]

Picarmite. A plastic military Dynamite, developed at PicArsn about 1949, contg 70 RDX, 15 talc, 9 di(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, 3 polyiso-butyiene, and 3% SAE 10 motor oil. it had a wt strength equivalent to 47% straight Dyna-... [Pg.742]

As well as aiding processing, a major function of plasticisers is to extend the operating temperature range by improving low temperature flexibility. The majority of demand in CR and NBR is satisfied by general purpose phthalate plasticisers di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP). However, a wide variety of speciality plasticisers, mainly esters, are marketed within the rubber industry. The majority of these have linear molecular structures giving them better low temperature performance than the phthalates. Examples of such plasticisers are di-2-ethylhexyl adipate (DOA), butyl carbitol adipate, di(butoxyethoxyethyl) adipate (BCA), and di-2-ethylhexyl sebacate (DOS). [Pg.156]

Greases made with lithium stearate and synthetic oils, such as 2-ethylhexyl sebacate or adipate, are especially applicable to lubrication of bearings that are subjected to both high and low temperatures. An important application is lubrication of antifriction bearings and instruments in aircraft which may encounter temperatures as low as —100° F. at high altitudes. [Pg.246]

Use Plastic demolition charges (Ref 19, pp 55-6) Composition C-4, also called Harrisite, was developed before 1950 at Picatinny Arsenal by Otroson (Ref 10) to serve as replacement for Comp C-3 which possessed some undesirable props. A semiplant method for manufg Comp C-4 was developed in 1956 by Lerner (Ref 14). This light brown putty-like substance contains RDX 91 nonexplosive plasticizer 9%, consisting of di-(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate 5.3, polyisobutylene 2.1 motor oil 1.6 parts. [Pg.268]

Preparation. In the laboratory prepn of Compo-sition C-4, dry RDX is added to a petroleum ether soln of di(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate, polyisobutylene SAE 10 engine oil. The solvent is evaporated and the residue worked by hand into a homogenous dough-like mass. Since the use of a volatile flammable solv is undesirable in plant production, a solventless process was developed. In the plant process two different granulations of RDX are used 61 parts of Class (or Class B) 30 parts of Class 3 (See description of RDX classes under Cyclo-trimechylenetrinitramine in this vol of Encyclopedia). The water-wet mixture of both is placed in a stainless steel mixing kettle and 9 parts of "polyisobutylene" binder are added. [Pg.268]

Reagents used to formulate the membranes are valinomycin, nonactin, dibenzo(18-crown-6), bis(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, bis(l-butylpentyl) adipate, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) (high molecular weight), potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate, all from Fluka. The different components are dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (Fluka) to form a membrane cocktail. [Pg.1246]

Prepare the cocktail for the potassium sensor membrane mixing in a 3mL glass vial the following substances 0.0025 g of valinomycin (ionophore), 0.075 g of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), 0.165g of bis(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate (plasticizer), 0.0015 g of potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (ionic additive) and 1.5 mL of tetrahydrofuran (THF). Cover the vial and shake it well, preferably in an orbital shaker for 30 min in order to dissolve and to homogenize the mixture. The resultant cocktail will suffice to prepare 10 sensors. [Pg.1247]
