Compo-sition

A consequence of absorption of X rays is the inner shell ionization of the absorbing atoms and the subsequent generation of characteristic X rays from the absorbing atoms, called secondary fluorescence, which raises the generated intensity over that produced by the direct action of the beam electrons. Secondary fluorescence can be induced by both characteristic and bremsstrahlung X rays. Both effects are compo-sitionally dependent.

It is well known that chemical compo.sition of rhizosphere solution can affect plant growth. Particularly, uptake of nutrients may be considerably influenced by the ionic concentration of the rhizosphere solution (40). Despite the difficulty of defining the exact concentration of ions in the rhizosphere surrounding each root (or even root portion), it has been unequivocally demonstrated that plants have evolved mechanisms to cope with the uneven distribution of ions in the root surrounding in order to provide adequate supply of each essential nutrient (41). These mechanisms include expression of transporter genes in specific root zones or cells and synthesis of enzymes involved in the uptake and assimilation of nutrients (40,43). Interestingly, it has been shown that specific isoforms of the H -ATPase are expressed in the plasma membrane of cell roots it has been proposed that the expression of specific isoforms in specific tissues is relevant to nutrient (nitrate) acquisition (44) and salt tolerance (45). 

A biowaiver is applicable for extended-release tablet formulations, where the lower strength(s) are compo-sitionally similar to the highest strength and uses the same release mechanism and the dissolution profile is similar in pH 1.2, 4.5, and 6.8.

The method of preparation of the alumina has a marked effect on the product distribution as shown in Table VIII (47). Over the pure alumina (P) the olefinic products are nearly equilibrated. The alkali-containing catalysts, however, give kinetically controlled products. The very low activity of these catalysts for olefin isomerization had been ascertained independently. It may, therefore, be concluded that the compo.sition of the olefins produced at 350° is very nearly that of the primary dehydration products.

Preparation. In the laboratory prepn of Compo-sition C-4, dry RDX is added to a petroleum ether soln of di(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate, polyisobutylene SAE 10 engine oil. The solvent is evaporated and the residue worked by hand into a homogenous dough-like mass. Since the use of a volatile flammable solv is undesirable in plant production, a solventless process was developed. In the plant process two different granulations of RDX are used 61 parts of Class (or Class B) 30 parts of Class 3 (See description of RDX classes under Cyclo-trimechylenetrinitramine in this vol of Encyclopedia). The water-wet mixture of both is placed in a stainless steel mixing kettle and 9 parts of "polyisobutylene" binder are added. 

The phenomenon of TPF is a disturbing one to be avoided for an application of liquid-liquid extraction. For the PUREX process, the conditions of TPF as functions of concentrations of HN03, U(VI), U(IV), and Pu(IV) diluent and temperature were investigated thoroughly (86-88). The conditions are commonly expressed in terms of LOC. The scientific elucidation, however, of the TPF, dealing with compo-sitions/speciation and structure of the phases, causes of the phase splitting and its mechanism, thermodynamic features of TPF, reasons for difference of the LOCs with respect to metals and acids, had been deficient.

As the metabolic behaviour of cell lines changes with many parameters, such as growth rate, cell density, pH, pO, glucose concentration and probably other physicochemical parameters, it may be useful to monitor more than one of the medium components.
