Textile chemical auxiliary suppliers will provide suggested recipes in their product information. These recipes will contain recommendations for the appropriate catalyst and other additives that improve the performance characteristics of the easy-care and dnrable press finishes, such as softeners to improve the fabric handle and prodncts to improve tear strength (for example polyvinyl acetate, amino-modified or epoxy-functional silicones). Less decrease in degree of polymerisation (DP) rating and abrasion resistance is provided by adding water-based poly-nrethane emulsions of self crosslinking silicone elastomers. 

Side and cross members are pretreated by blasting and phosphating. An electrode-posited primer coating follows and is sometimes immediately overcoated with a topcoat based on an air-drying alkyd or epoxy ester, or on an oven-drying alkyd-melamine resin combination. After assembly of the truck, a third layer (i.e., a second topcoat) is applied that serves as a supply finish. These finishes are mostly two-pack acrylic aliphatic isocyanate topcoats. Water-based two-pack systems and powder coatings are the most recent developments. 

Developed for use as an anti-skid additive to floor paint or sealers, Clear-Grip is a durable, micronized polymeric aggregate that will not soften under normal heat exposure. It adds a slight texture to finishes without changing the color, and is chemical and solvent resistant. Clear-Grip can be used in water-based, solvent-based alkyd, urethane or epoxy coatingp.

The electrocoat bath consists of 80-90% de-ionised water and 10-20% paint solids. The water acts as the carrier for the paint solids which are constantly agitated. Paint solids consist of resin and pigment. The resin, which is an epoxy or acrylic-based thermoset, is the backbone of the final paint film and provides the corrosion protection, durability and toughness of the finish. Pigments are used to provide the colour and gloss. 

Some commercial durable antistatic finishes have been Hsted in Table 3 (98). Early patents suggest that amino resins (qv) can impart both antisHp and antistatic properties to nylon, acryUc, and polyester fabrics. CycHc polyurethanes, water-soluble amine salts cross-linked with styrene, and water-soluble amine salts of sulfonated polystyrene have been claimed to confer durable antistatic protection. Later patents included dibydroxyethyl sulfone [2580-77-0] hydroxyalkylated cellulose or starch, poly(vinyl alcohol) [9002-86-2] cross-linked with dimethylolethylene urea, chlorotria2ine derivatives, and epoxy-based products. Other patents claim the use of various acryUc polymers and copolymers. Essentially, durable antistats are polyelectrolytes, and the majority of usehil products involve variations of cross-linked polyamines containing polyethoxy segments (92,99—101).
