Environmental Industry Associations

A sub-group of Environmental Industry Associations that represents for-profit companies in North America providing solid, hazardous and medical waste collection, recycling and disposal services, remedial and oil spill clean-ups, and companies providing professional and consulting services to the industry. [Pg.280]

To assist purchasers of stationary compactors, the Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) of the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) has developed a standardized method of rating compactors. Periodically (generally every 3 years), WASTEC publishes a book of standardized ratings for the equipment sold by its compactor manufacturer members. [Pg.311]

An industrial association ofproducers and users of acrylonitrile, concerned with the health, safety, environmental and other matters regarding the manufacture and use of the substance. [Pg.269]

Since the 1970s, technological advances have solved many environmental problems associated with energy production and consumption, and proven that more energy consumption does not necessarily mean more pollution. The fossil fuel industries are producing and distributing more energy less expensive-... [Pg.482]

Beyond the ATS program, the DOE is looking at several new initiatives to work on -with industry. One, Vision 21, aims to virtually eliminate environmental concerns associated with coal and fossil systems while achieving 60 percent efficiency for coal-based plants, 75 percent efficiency for gas-based plants, and 85 percent for coproduction facilities. Two additional fossil cycles have been proposed that can achieve 60 percent efficiency. One incorporates a gasifier and solid oxide fuel into a combined cycle the other adds a pyrolyzer with a pressurized fluidized bed combustor. Also under consideration is the development of a flexible midsize gas turbine. This initiative would reduce the gap between the utility-size turbines and industrial turbines that occurred during the DOE ATS program. [Pg.1181]

The CleanGredients development model engages a multi-stakeholder coalition of participants from government entities, environmental organizations, industry associations, cleaning product formulators and distributors, and chemical manufacturers and suppliers, working to shift the direction of industrial and institutional (I I) cleaning product... [Pg.297]

A number of the materials used in the rubber industry to prevent sticking of hot rubber compounds to themselves or machinery have a certain degree of environmental hazard associated with them and thus require controlled application. Machinery for this purpose is designed to minimise any atmospheric pollution. [Pg.178]

In the USA, the toy industry has decided not to disclose what chemicals are used in its products - a move which is against the hopes of Environmental Defense of New York, a group who believes that companies should disclose this information so that the public can make informed choices. Details of the debate are recorded here. ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE TOY INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION US,CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION US,ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY MATTEL INC. HASBRO INC. There is little published literature in the public domain regarding LCAs of wood modification processes. All wood modification processes (as with all industrial processes) will undeniably have an environmental impact associated with them. Apart from the environmental impacts associated with forestry operations, common to all wood products, additional impacts associated with wood modification are as follows ... [Pg.194]

Petroleum refining is one of the largest industries in the United States, and potential environmental hazards associated with refineries have caused increased concern for coimnunities in close proximity to them. This update provides a general overview of the processes involved and some of the potential environmental hazards associated with petroleum refineries (see also Chapter 3). [Pg.131]

Chlorine-containing polymers such as poly(vinyl chloride) PVC undergo an autocatalytic dehydrochlorination reaction under the influence of elevated temperature and UV radiation. Since the HCl originating from the dehydro chlorination of the PVC chains is believed to sustain this autocatalytic process, stabilizers that irreversibly bond HCl can thus inhibit the degradation. Heavy metal compounds such as cadmium stearate or lead stearate are currently used for this purpose. However, alternatives are required due to environmental problems associated with the use of heavy metals. Indeed, the largest current application of LDH materials is in the polymer industry, mainly to stabilize PVC [3,229-232]. [Pg.214]

The procedures selected initially have been constantly improved in detail however, no significant changes in the basic techniques have been necessary. The phased approach is, therefore, a viable and cost effective concept for identifying potential environmental problems associated with discharge from industrial and energy processes. [Pg.47]

The Nickel Producers Environmental Research Association (NiPERA) is sponsoring research on the application of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) to isotopic analysis of nickel in biological samples, on the development of sampling instrumentation for assessing workers exposure to nickel in the nickel industry, and on methods for utilizing newly developed analytical methods, such as laser beam ionization mass spectrometry, for the identification and speciation of nickel compounds in powders and dusts with particular reference to nickel refining. [Pg.215]
