Informed choice

There are numerous articles and references on computational research studies. If none exist for the task at hand, the researcher may have to guess which method to use based on its assumptions. It is then prudent to perform a short study to verify the method s accuracy before applying it to an unknown. When an expert predicts an error or best method without the benefit of prior related research, he or she should have a fair amount of knowledge about available options A savvy researcher must know the merits and drawbacks of various methods and software packages in order to make an informed choice. The bibliography at the end of this chapter lists sources for reviewing accuracy data. Appendix A of this book provides short reviews of many software packages. 

Commonly, a juice drink contains 10% fruit juice, which usually is a blend of several fruits. The 1990 Federal Nutrition and Labeling Act requites declaration of juice content so that the consumer can make a more informed choice (3). With cocktails and juice drinks, added sugars, acids, flavorings, colorings, and nutrients can be used to provide a wide variety of stable products of uniform quaUty. Because drinks requite less juice than 100% juice products, the drinks can be sold at a lower price. 

Often an organization will strive for the elimination of a specific toxic material from a given process. Alternatives will also have other hazards and risks that require an informed choice. The industrial hygienist, chemist, and safety engineer play an important role in developing the information for making the selection between alternatives. 

Generating the calibration is often the easiest step in the whole process thanks to the widespread availability of powerful, inexpensive computers and capable software. This step is often as easy as moving the data into a computer, making a few simple (but well informed ) choices, and pushing a few keys on the keyboard. This step will be covered in the remaining chapters of this book. 

No evaluation can be complete without these insights, which then allow us scope to make more informed choices about mentoring programs in the future.
