Environment global issues

Energy is a key issue and is closely associated with the environment. Global environmental issues must be addressed, where the energy chain from resources to end users is of vital importance.

By the mid-1980s the Aral crisis had been acknowledged by the whole world and became one of the most significant environment protection issues. The Aral problem is not global, but nevertheless it stirs global interest. For many years it was used by the scientific and civil societies to stress how quickly man s activities may cause degradation of vast expanses on our planet. 

Mercury is a toxic environmental contaminant and is a primary issue of concern for several government agencies (e.g.. United States Environmental Protection Agency, Environment Canada, and Health Canada). Mercury transport and fate are global issues since, due to its dispersion and transformation into bioavailable forms, it can bioaccumulate not only in contaminated sites but also in remote freshwater lakes [1-3]. For example, Kejimkujik Park (Nova Scotia, Canada) has no known local anthropogenic inputs of mercury and yet contains fish and loons that have some of the highest blood mercury concentrations in North America [4,5]. 

Continuous increases in the synthesis of chemical compounds, accompanied by their disposal in the environment, have made hazard toxicity a global issue, especially at the level of the chemical-biological interaction between toxicants and species. In this context, the marriage between structural molecular computing and catalytic activity should be accomplished in a systematic, yet universal, way. Hazardous-waste disposal is the cradle-to-grave management of materials that threaten human health and the environment. Hazardous wastes are ubiquitous and their proper disposal is a global issue. In fact, industrialized nations are stiU involved in cleanup of hazardous wastes that contaminated land and waters before disposal laws were adopted and enforced. One method of recycling hazardous waste sites is to clean up the wastes and designate the land as a brownfield site that can be reused by commercial and industrial enterprises. 

Members of the public are becoming increasingly aware of and concerned about their local environment as well as about the global issues. They no longer accept emissions from a factory as fhe price for providing employment. Neighbours of a factory become very alarmed if fhere is news about possible environmental issues such as chemical emissions, contamination of water or soil, release of chemical fumes, efc. Such incidents can be made very newsworthy by local newspapers, radio and TV stations but become one day wonders if the ramifications are essentially local.

The CFC-ozone depletion issue has demonstrated that mankind has the potential to seriously modify the atmosphere on a global scale. We need to learn much more about the environment to prevent its inadvertent deterioration by human activities. 

For the freshmen and sophomores, the Seminar appears to be the first classroom opportunity to study scientific aspects of a changing global environment in relation to social and humanistic issues and to link these to current public policy discussions reported in the press. Class members have recommended that multidisciplinary global change instruction be made a requirement for all college... 

In Ihc present paper I will discuss CO2 and energy issues together with the environment and resources issues because other enviroiunental issues and resources problems are the most important issues for the survival of the human beings, comparable to the global population problem and nordi/south issues [1]. The research activities concerning the problems in the laboratory of the present author are also introduced only by the references.
