Degradation causes

Despite all these safeguards to extend the service life of the antifreeze, fluid replacement is requited periodically. Typically, fluids are replaced because of irreversible damage caused by one of four conditions contamination, gel formation because of glycol/siUcate reaction, extensive glycol degradation caused by overheating or excessive oxygen exposure, or inhibitor depletion. [Pg.190]

Most polymer degradation caused by the absorption of uv light results from radical-initiated autoxidation. [Pg.222]

Energy Related Applications. Much research, with regard to the use of cesium in energy related processes, has resulted in Httle commercial apphcation. The heightened awareness of the environmental degradation caused by fossil fuel power stations has resulted in increased research both into efficiency improvements for existing plants and into alternative power generation (qv) methods. [Pg.378]

Among the D vitamins, multiple fluonne substituents in the side chain of 25-hydroxy-D3 (4) markedly increases bone resorptive activity [21, 22] The enhanced activity may be due to blockade of degradation caused by the presence of fluorine in specific positions. [Pg.1013]

Amylose is thus extremely susceptible to degradation in the presence of hydroxyl ion. Two mechanisms may be involved (1) a stepwise degradation caused by the reducing end-group s undergoing enolization followed by degradation to acidic products (this must occur in the presence or absence of oxygen), and (2) a random, catalytic, hydrolytic scission of 4—>l-a-D... [Pg.361]

We also note two reports on the degradation of stacked films of oriented PET. In the first [36], photodegradation is said to be two-step in nature with weak links cleaving first followed by a much slower cleaving of the strong links . The chain scission process was tracked versus exposure time by measurement of solution viscosity [37], In the second paper [38], the surface nature of the degradation was reported and the rationale elucidated for why surface degradation causes overall mechanical failure limited by that layer, much as we have discussed in the impact properties of the PECT (see above). [Pg.637]

Over time, TBT and TPT are solubili2ed from the paint. In sea water, TBT exists as a cation ((C4Hc,)3Sn ) complexed mostly with hydroxide. The most important sink for TBT is adsorption onto sediments where degradation causes it to have a half-life of a few years. [Pg.842]

Compositions are also important in the construction of objects to both propel material into outer space and exist there. Because of the large amount of fuel required to propel spacecraft into outer space, weight reduction, offered by composites, is essential. The polymeric nature of composites also makes it an ideal material to resist degradation caused by the vacuum of outer space. [Pg.244]

UV stabilizer Additive that retards degradation caused by UV radiation, vulcanization Cross-linking with heat and sulfur. [Pg.495]

Accelerated degradation caused by combined action of temperature and chemical environment. [Pg.408]

Each bag or container of raw materials should be identified with a unique code, lot, or receipt number. This code should be used in recording the disposition of each lot. Raw materials will be held under quarantine until they are sampled, tested, and released. Raw materials should be carefully handled and stored to avoid any contamination or cross contamination. When bagged and boxed raw materials need to be stored, it must be done so in adequately cleaned buildings that are free of infestation by rodents, birds, insects, and other vermin, and the building should be maintained. A controlled environment may be necessary to avoid microbial contamination or degradation caused due to exposure to heat, air, or light. When the raw materials are stored outdoors, the containers should be adequate for the outdoor storage. [Pg.393]
