Elements, of flexibility

There are other convenient methods for the preparation of 3-benzylindole6,7 and 3-benzoylindole.8 The present procedure, however, has two useful elements of flexibility it produces both 3-alkyl- and... [Pg.12]

In the enumeration of chirality elements of flexible molecules all arrangements are taken into account which are permitted by the given constraints under the observation conditions. Here, one must always assume a rigid skeletal model and freely rotating ligandsF That arrangement for which the lowest number of chirality elements is found equal zero determines the number of chirality elements for the whole ensemble. [Pg.25]

In contrast with all the heterolytic disconnections considered so far, which have been called "logical" in the sense that they meet all the requirements already mentioned (see Heading 3.5), we will cal "illogical disconnections" those disconnections which, although they do not fulfil some of these requirements, are still useful since they introduce an element of flexibility which is highly desirable in designing complex organic syntheses. [Pg.109]

Guidelines used by applicants are preferred in order to maintain an element of flexibility and are not designed to place restraints on scientific progress. It is recognized that, in some cases resulting from scientific developments, an alternative approach may be appropriate. However, when an applicant chooses not to apply a guideline, then that decision must be explained and justified when submitted by the sponsor in support of the application. [Pg.318]

The MRP has several advantages. The processing time for applications is relatively rapid, and there are several elements of flexibility for the applicant (choice of RMS and CMS, and provision of a draft report). The MRP also allows for approvals to include different trade names in different countries for the same product, unlike the CP (see below). Furthermore, the MRP can be activated repeatedly and incrementally, so as to gradually expand the product application into increasing numbers of MS. It should be noted, however, that MS can differ in their recognitions in classification for supply (prescription-only, over-the-counter, etc.). [Pg.459]

While LNG brings an element of flexibility to the market, the traditional long-term contracting behavior enforces contractual commitments but may also act as a deterrent to new market entrants. Citing a number of international case studies, Victor shows that the LNG market proves that private commercial players act more efficiently than states, especially as first movers with innovative commercial or technological processes. [Pg.17]

Question 3 addresses elements of flexibility. Upton describes three under which most flexibility requirements fall. They are range, mobility, and uniformity. [Pg.39]

Product mix changes are required over an operational time frame that, in this case, is daily. The element of flexibility is mobility. So, any product mix can be made each day, with the supply chain moving quickly to produce one product to another. A sandwich shop exemplifies this type of flexibility in a short timeframe, with any sandwich on the menu being assembled to order in minutes. [Pg.39]

Mechanical Cake Removal. This method is used in the American version of the dynamic filter described under cross-flow filtration with rotating elements, where turbine-type rotors are used to limit the cake thickness at low speeds. The Exxflow filter, introduced in the United Kingdom, is described in more detail under cross-flow filtration in porous pipes. It uses, among other means, a roUer cleaning system which periodically roUs over a curtain of flexible pipes and dislodges any cake on the inside of the pipes. The cake is then flushed out of the curtain by the internal flow. [Pg.409]

Direct-reading polychromators (Figure 3b) have a number of exit slits and photomultiplier tube detectors, which allows one to view emission from many lines simultaneously. More than 40 elements can be determined in less than one minute. The choice of emission lines in the polychromator must be made before the instrument is purchased. The polychromator can be used to monitor transient signals (if the appropriate electronics and software are available) because unlike slew-scan systems it can be set stably to the peak emission wavelength. Background emission cannot be measured simultaneously at a wavelength close to the line for each element of interest. For maximum speed and flexibility both a direct-reading polychromator and a slew-scan monochromator can be used to view emission from the plasma simultaneously. [Pg.641]

Site H was the only site at which the contractor had implemented comprehensive and effective site control elements. The Site H contractor had established site work zones, a buddy system, and site communication procedures consistent with 1910.120(d). This contractor had also established exclusion zones and contamination reduction zones to control migration of site contaminants to clean areas of the site when work within these areas introduced the potential for exposure to hazardous contaminants. The audit team supported this contractor s use of flexible and temporary work zone boundaries based on monitoring results and hazard determinations. [Pg.198]

Duct branch Used to subdivide the flow from one or more ducts into wo or more ducts, or, conversely, to unite the flow from two or more ducts into one duct (T pieces, Y pieces, cross pieces, etc.) It may or may not include diverting elements. Note Rigid components of ductwork allow sound and vibration transmission the fixing of flexible sleeves on branches reduces the magnitude of this transmission. [Pg.1431]

ADMET is quite possibly the most flexible transition-metal-catalyzed polymerization route known to date. With the introduction of new, functionality-tolerant robust catalysts, the primary limitation of this chemistry involves the synthesis and cost of the diene monomer that is used. ADMET gives the chemist a powerful tool for the synthesis of polymers not easily accessible via other means, and in this chapter, we designate the key elements of ADMET. We detail the synthetic techniques required to perform this reaction and discuss the wide range of properties observed from the variety of polymers that can be synthesized. For example, branched and functionalized polymers produced by this route provide excellent models (after quantitative hydrogenation) for the study of many large-volume commercial copolymers, and the synthesis of reactive carbosilane polymers provides a flexible route to solvent-resistant elastomers with variable properties. Telechelic oligomers can also be made which offer an excellent means for polymer modification or incorporation into block copolymers. All of these examples illustrate the versatility of ADMET. [Pg.435]

Instead of a conjunction of preconditions, as used by the STRIPS and conditional operators, the functional operator has a set of conjunctions of preconditions (Fig. 2c). Each element in the set describes some possible situation that might exist before the operator is applied. For each element of the set of preconditions, there is a corresponding element in the set of postconditions. The functional operator is a more flexible model than the STRIPS or conditional operators. It comes closer to the modeling needs for the synthesis of operating procedures for chemical processes, but as we will see in the next section, we need to introduce additional aspects in order to capture the network-like structure of chemical processes. [Pg.48]
