Electrical Power Need

1 Electrical Power Needed in Initial Phases—Before Start of Plant [Pg.177]

Estimate the requirement of power during construction, erection, and trial runs of various process units and machineries. This can be done by knowing the horsepower of the motors connected to various loads and the expected running time for various trials. [Pg.177]

Many welding transformers, heavy-duty cranes, flood lighting, conveyors are in use during the construction phase of the plant. These are in operation for the first few months only and gradually their use gets reduced. [Pg.177]

The mechanical trials of machineries can be planned in a manner to avoid heavy electrical load on the main incoming supply by running them one by one if possible. The trials for all machines can thus be completed by mnning less machines at a time. [Pg.177]

The dry run of the plant can now be taken by ranning almost aU of the units as they would run eventually but without feeding the raw materials. The power required for the dry run will be generally a httle less than the actual load of the plant when it is run at its rated capacity. [Pg.177]

Hot water or steam can also be used in absorption-type chillers to provide chilled water with the reduction in electrical power needed for the refrigeration process. [Pg.188]

It is therefore vital that the United States in particular and all developed countries, emphasize nuclear power in meeting electric power needs, and to the extent possible substitute uranium for fossil fuel. It is equally critical that, as aging nuclearfiacilities are taken out of commission, replacement power generation be nuclear and not fossil fuel. [Pg.49]

Performance parameters of the electrolysis include the applied voltage, E (V), the applied current, I (A), and the hydrogen production rate, Q (Nt/h) at the reference condition of 0.1 MPa (1 bar) and 273 K (0°C). The Faraday efficiency, cr, expressed in Equation 4.6, is the ratio of AG to the applied power, I E, that is, the ratio of the theoretical electric power needed for the electrolysis to the actually applied power of the cell. Thus, the Faraday efficiency is one useful measurement to judge electrolysis performance. [Pg.130]

In Texas, TXU is making a 10 billion investment for future power needs by creating a new renewable company for the electric power needs of a growing Texas market. It plans to provide lower-cost, secure and stable power with new consumer and business service offerings, and a voluntary emissions reduction program. The new investments will provide more reliable electricity thereby reducing dependence on natural gas, as well as create jobs and lower emissions. [Pg.44]

Electric power needed to operate ancillary scrubber equipment such as effluent hold-tank mixers, saturation spray pumps, and thickener rake (7 percent). [Pg.308]

A water heater is to be constructed by an electrically heated copper rod (D = 1 cm, t = 1 m) surrounded by an insulated cylindrical shell (D = 3 cm) as shown in Fig. 6P-6. The water inlet temperature is 7 = 25 °C. Hot water at temperature To = 90 °C with steady mass flow rate m = 1 kg/s is required. Determine the electrical power need. [Pg.345]

The efficiency of an electrolysis process is often defined as the ratio of the energy content of the hydrogen produced per unit time and the electrical power needed for its production (see Eq. (5.17)). The lower heating value of hydrogen is most often used as a reference here. Commercial electrolysers reach efficiencies between 65 % and 75% [11]. [Pg.157]

Photovoltaic (PV) electric power generatiom Photovoltaic cells corrvert solar energy directly into electricity and could supply a significant fraction of electric power needs in the southwestern tegiotrs of the United States if system costs can be reduced. Energy corrversion efficiencies of 10% or more, of... [Pg.176]

The air stoichiometry is another parameter which influences the stack performance. The air stoichiometry is defined as ratio between the supplied oxygen flow and the used oxygen from the stack. The fuel cell stack performance can be increased by increasing the stoichiometry as depicted in Fig. 4.26. The increase of the supplied air from the air module is feasible by increasing the electric power of the compressor. This however leads to a decrease the overall fuel cell system efficiency due to the necessary higher electric power needs of this compressor. [Pg.79]

Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) is a Finnish power company owned mainly by industry. The company was founded in 1969 primarily to satisfy the electrical power needs of the forest industry. The company aims at developing and operating large-scale power plants and producing electricity for its shareholders at cost price. TVO s first nuclear power plant unit, Olkiluoto 1, was connected to the national grid in September 1978, and the second unit, Olkiluoto 2, in February 1980. TVO s output of nuclear power covers about one fifth of the total national production in Finland. [Pg.73]

Mcmy remote mine sites ire coimected to relatively weak diesel generator power supply systems (cis compared to more stable utihty coimected systems) for their electrical power needs md overall system fault current levels ire usually low. These systems do not handle large, real (or reactive) power swings well without significant power quahty issues occurring, such as... [Pg.183]

Electrochromic efficiency, expressed as C cm, is the ratio of the variation of optical density to the injected charge as a function of unit area, and it is a wavelength-dependent quantity. The electrical power needed to operate an electrochromatic device is related to electrochromic efficiency, an important parameter to discriminate among electrochromic materials for large-area devices. [Pg.229]

It is estimated that marine renewable energy projects have the potential to provide 15 percent of the United Kingdom s electrical needs and about 7 percent of the United States electrical power needs. Research b most active in the coimtries with the most access to wave, tidal, and current power, namely the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, and the United States. Jointly operated projects will be the rule because the marine environment is a harsh one and significant engineering and environmental challenges must be overcome. [Pg.1344]

Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada has a giant solar panel power array that generates about 14 megawatts of power for the base. This provides about 25% of the electrical power needs for the base. [Pg.803]

In January 1967, N Reactor was shut down because its plutonium production capability was not needed, but in April 1967 DOE agreed to operate N Reactor solely in a power-production mode for supplying steam to HGP in response to electrical power needs in the Northwest. On June 21, 1967, a fire in the 109-N Steam Generator Building Cell 3 of the reactor resulted in a temporary shutdown. The N Reactor was restarted on July 21 of the same year. [Pg.119]

Installation recommendations including all electrical power needs. [Pg.348]
