Simulation of Dynamic Models Linear dynamic models are particularly useful for analyzing control-system behavior. The insight gained through linear analysis is invaluable. In this chapter, the polymerization methods used for the production of uniform latex particles in the size range of O.I-lOO /Ltm are described. Emulsion, swollen emulsion, and dispersion polymerization techniques and their modified forms for producing plain, functionalized, or porous uniform latex particles are reviewed. The general mechanisms and the kinetics of the polymerization methods, the developed synthesis procedures, the effect of process variables, and the product properties are discussed.

Preliminary tests were made on melt mixed blends of PP and LCP to study the effect of processing temperature on the shape and size of the dispersed LCP phase. Extrusion experiments were made below as well as above the melting temperature of the LCP. Two different polypropylenes were tested to determine the effect of the viscosity of the matrix on the final morphology.

The results of research into the fluidised bed pyrolysis of plastic wastes are reported, with reference to determining the optimum process conditions for the process with respect to the reactor behaviour. The study investigates the effects of process variables such as bed temperature, polymer feed rate, bed hold-up, fluidising velocity, and size of inert material. Findings illustrate the importance of the knowledge of the hydrodynamics of the fluidised bed and of the interactions between bed and polymer particles in the design and operation of the reactor. 15 refs. 

The application of a selective pyrolysis process to the recovery of chemicals from waste PU foam is described. The reaction conditions are controlled so that target products can be collected directly from the waste stream in high yields. Molecular beam mass spectrometry is used in small-scale experiments to analyse the reaction products in real time, enabling the effects of process parameters such as temperature, catalysts and co-reagents to be quickly screened. Fixed bed and fluidised bed reactors are used to provide products for conventional chemical analysis to determine material balances and to test the concept under larger scale conditions. Results are presented for the recycling of PU foams from vehicle seats and refrigerators. 12 refs. 

Nanocomposite based on polyurethane (PU) is prepared using silica, clay, and Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS). Preparation, characterization, mechanical and barrier properties, morphology, and effect of processing conditions have been reported on polyurethane-based nanocomposites [72,73].
