Editing 184 INDEX

CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, annual editions. CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL. The CRC is probably the best-known single-volume handbook, and it contains a wealth of useful data in all areas of chemistry and physics. The most useful part for organic chemists is the section headed "Physical Constants of Organic Compounds," which provides formulas, structures, molar masses (molecular weights), densities, refractive indexes, solubilities, color, and melting and boiling points for about 11,000 compounds. CAS RNs are also included. The newer editions index this section by synonym, molecular formula, and CAS RN. Many institutions also subscribe to the Web version of the CRC. [Pg.911]

Quite naturally there is a certain amount of arbitrariness in this system, although the lUPAC nomenclature is followed. The preferred Chemical Abstracts index names for chemical substances have been, with very few exceptions, continued unchanged (since 1972) as set forth in the Ninth Collective Index Guide and in a journal article. Any revisions appear in the updated Index Guide new editions appear at 18-month intervals. Appendix VI is of particular interest to chemists. Reprints of the Appendix may be purchased from Chemical Abstracts Service, Marketing Division, P.O. Box 3012, Columbus, Ohio 43210. [Pg.50]

New to this edition, the ionisation constants in the form of pK have be i entered for lonisable (x>m-pounds. These are fotIow l by procedures, us l to purify the substances, in most cases to analytical purily. An index of CAS Reglkry Numbers with the reflective page numhera of the entries has been added as well, making it easy to locate any substance irrespective of which chapter it is In, and also rapidly telling the reader whether there is a purification procedure for that substance In this book. [Pg.615]

This review includes most of the published articles from the defined area and excludes only imidazoquinolines, which were reviewed in Weissberger-Taylor s series The Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds (81MI1). Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry II (96MI1) mentioned only some of the azoloquinolines in the first edition the authors omitted citations about this type of compounds. The trend toward interest in these compounds can be illustrated by the number of citations in Chemical Abstract as shown in Table I. Besides Chemical Abstracts Substance/Subject (Collective) Indexes, the MDL database search has been used. [Pg.191]

William K. Moberg for having edited all preparations. Without his help there probably would be no volume. Thanks are due also to Ms. Janice Smith and Mrs. Donna Latz for typing the manuscript. Finally, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. S. Kasparek for preparing Author and Subject Indexes. [Pg.155]

Registry Numbers. Annual supplements, with cumulative indexes, have appeared since 1983. A similar work, devoted to organometallic compounds, is the 2nd edition of the Dictionary of Organometallic Compounds , 6 vols. in its 5th supplement, published by Chapman and Hall in 1989. Another, Dictionary of Steroids , 2 vols., 1991, is also published by Chapman and Hall. [Pg.1617]

The single best source for quick and reasonably thorough access to the body of knowledge associated with computer ethics is Deborah Johnson s Computer Ethics (3rd edition, 2001). The first edition of that work [17], the first book listed under computer ethics in the Philosopher s Index, provides a conceptual framework for the issues of privacy, liability, ownership, and power. Despite its very early appearance in the short history of computer ethics, much of the analysis retains its value. [Pg.718]
