Early release

Safety Monitor is an interactive computer program (Stamm, 1996) that performs real-time assessments of configuration-specific plant accident risk. Originally used at Southern California Edison s San Onofre station in 1994, further development was sponsored by three nuclear utilities and EPRI, to include shutdown operation and expanded user features. It will be enhanced to calculate large early release frequency (a Level 2 risk). [Pg.146]

Here, we define the total dissolved solids (in mg kg-1) for early releases of the REACT program (GWB 6.0 and previous), so the software can correctly convert our input constraints from mg kg-1 to molal units, as carried internally (i.e., variables nii and m.j). The print command causes the program to list in the output all of the aqueous species, not just those in greatest concentration. Typing go triggers the model to begin calculations and write its results to the output dataset. [Pg.84]

For each coal, at the maximum in hydrogen content, or H/C atomic ratio, the aliphatic hydrogen content (determined by H NMR analysis) accounted for over 90% of the total hydrogen. The aliphatic hydrogen contents were 10.5% for the subbituminous coal,PSOC-1403, and 6.9% for the bituminous coal, PSOC-1266. The high aliphatic hydrogen content was associated with the presence of polymethylene chains. The early release of paraffinic material, as n-alkanes and as long chain substituents to aromatic structures, under conditions of mild pyrolysis has been observed in other research (13-15. ... [Pg.78]

Relatively small PRPs, known as de minimis parties, are allowed early release from CERCLA requirements. The USEPA has completed settlements with 15,000 small-volume contributors at hundreds of Superfund sites. By settling with the USEPA, small polluters are not dragged into the problems of bigger polluters. [Pg.34]

If one considers the present projections of most American government sources, the above expectations will seem overly optimistic. Usually, the ice formation in the sea starts in mid-December while the maximum ice extension is observed in February. The sea is released from ice in March (early release at the beginning of March and late release at the beginning of April). The duration of the ice period ranges from 130 days in extremely severe winters to 40 days in mild winters. [Pg.157]

There are two schools of thought about the time of the initial As mobilization either (i) it is recent and has been induced by man s activities [there are proponents of this who support both the pyrite oxidation hypothesis and the iron oxide reduction hypothesis (Acharyya et al., 2000)], or (ii) it occurred much earlier and is therefore dominantly a natural process. While we believe that an early release date, (ii) above, is the more likely, this is not to imply that man s recent activities have not had, or will not have, any impact on the extent of the groundwater arsenic problem. For example, recent changes in land use such as irrigation will not only alter the groundwater flow patterns but could also affect the boundary conditions for oxygen diffusion into the aquifer and so could also affect its redox status (Bhattacharya et al., 1997). [Pg.252]
