In 1988, the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) included an Occupational Health Supplement, which included questions on dermatitis. The survey consisted of personal interviews of people in randomly selected households. For 30,074 people participating in the NHIS, the period prevalence for all forms of dermatitis was 11.2% and for contact dermatitis was 2.8%. Projecting these results to the U.S. working population resulted in an estimate of 13.7 million people with dermatitis and 3.1 million people with contact dermatitis.67...

As many as 40% of patients older than 65 years of age report experiencing constipation. The results from 42,375 participants of the National Health Interview Survey on Digestive Disorders demonstrated that there is not an age-related increased incidence of infrequent bowel movements however, there is an age-related increased incidence of laxative use. Worldwide, milk, fish, eggs and meat have been consistently identified to be the most important natural food sources for iodine (Dahl et al., 2004 Girelli et al, 2004 Remer et al., 2006 Varo et al., 1982 Wenlock et al., 1982). Iodine is also obtained from dietary supplements. Respiratory Effects. Physical examination of library workers acutely exposed to high but unquantified concentrations of chlordane from a spill revealed no indication of respiratory effects (NIOSH 1984a). Chest pains, dyspnea, and shortness of breath were reported in a compilation of cases and personal reports of humans accidentally exposed to chlordane by inhalation (EPA 1980a) exposures frequently involved a mixture of chemicals (such as other related and nonrelated pesticides) and vehicles (including petroleum distillates). Therefore, these effects cannot be attributed to chlordane alone. Results of a questionnaire indicated increases (compared with the National Center for Health Statistics 1979 National Health Interview Survey) in sore throat and respiratory infections in humans shortly after their homes were treated for termites (Menconi et al. 1988). Chronic exposure in pesticide treated homes was associated with bronchitis and sinusitis. 

Reproductive Effects. Compared with the control population from the National Center for Health Statistics 1979 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), the incidence rates of unspecified ovarian and uterine disease were significantly (p<0.05) elevated in women who were exposed to chlordane vapors in their homes (Menconi et al. 1988). Because the case report and the epidemiological study have several limitations, it is doubtful that the reported lesions and diseases are treatment-related. 

Data from the 2002 U.S. National Health Interview Survey indicated a correlation between St. John s wort use and development of cataracts (Booth and McGwin 2009).
