Configuration Specification

Safety Monitor is an interactive computer program (Stamm, 1996) that performs real-time assessments of configuration-specific plant accident risk. Originally used at Southern California Edison s San Onofre station in 1994, further development was sponsored by three nuclear utilities and EPRI, to include shutdown operation and expanded user features. It will be enhanced to calculate large early release frequency (a Level 2 risk). [Pg.146]

An enzyme consists of a polypeptide chain with a particular spatial configuration specific to that sequence of amino acids. The molecule twists and turns, forming structural features that are catalytically active, these being known as active sites. There may be more than one active site per enzyme molecule. Sometimes an auxiliary catalyst, known as a coenzyme, is also needed. Apparently, only the relevant active site of the enzyme comes into contact with the substrate and is directly involved in the catalysed reaction. The active site consists of only a few amino acid residues. These are not necessarily adjacent to one another in the peptide chain but may be brought into proximity by the characteristic folding of the enzyme structure. The active site may also include the coenzyme. Pressure detection shall be used for closed enclosure applications. Threshold detectors provide an electric signal when a preset overpressure is exceeded. Dynamic detectors provide an electric signal to the control and indicating equipment (CIE). Typically they have both rate-of-rise and pressure threshold triggering points that can be configured specifically to the application conditions.
