This time, we will use more then one anode, to carryout a double reactiou In this example, we will make ferric chloride hydrate by using an iron anode, and a graphite anode. The graphite anode should be 8 to 12 inches long, by at least A inch in diameter. Note these graphite rods can be obtained from numerous arts and craft stores. Look for arts and crafts stores that sell drawing freehand accessories. Graphite is a form of carbon, and is commonly called "pencil lead". [Pg.102]

Fig. 4.34 Relative pair energies between two Si adatoms at six pair bond distances of the W (110) substrate. The broken curve is a freehand drawing merely for the purpose of showing the non-monotonic distance dependence of the Si-Si pair interaction. The centered line is the asymptotic value determined by comparing these experimental data with a Monte Carlo simulation. A line-art figure is drawn in an application such as Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand, or Corel Draw and exported as an EPS or a TIFF file. [Pg.351]

Curved lines can be drawn using a flexible curve, a set of French curves, or freehand. In the last case, turn your paper so that you can draw the curve in a single, sweeping stroke by a pivoting movement at the elbow (for larger curves) or wrist (for smaller ones). Do not try to force your hand to make complex, unnatural movements, as the resulting line will not be smooth. [Pg.254]

The instructor should make reasonably proportioned freehand sketches, of the glassware to be made, on the blackboard. The sketches should indicate the order of the steps to be taken. The student should be encouraged to copy these drawings in his book. [Pg.109]

Anyone who has used graph paper to plot out characters, then tediously converted the rows into decimal numbers can appreciate a character editor. Instead of drawing and erasing on paper, you can draw your characters freehand with a joystick. "Ultrafont -I-" has been written to offer almost every conceivable aid to help you design whole character sets. [Pg.199]

Using computers to produce graphs -never allow a computer program to dictate size, shape and other aspects of a graph find out how to alter scales, labels, axes, etc., and make appropriate selections. Draw curves freehand if the program only has the capacity to join the individual points by straight lines. [Pg.255]

In general, if you need to draw an orbital, we suggest you use the single contour as in Figure 3.9 because this is more easily remembered and drawn freehand. [Pg.24]

The overall quality and size requirements for structures and schemes are the same as those for other illustrations. Do not draw structures freehand. [Pg.388]

For measurements of lateral diffusion on the membrane, it is especially important to use the same bleach size for each experiment to allow for direct comparisons between data sets and to facilitate data analysis. Most software programs will allow the user to either copy and paste the ROI from one cell to another or permit one to type in the exact specifications of the bleach region. Often, the ROI specifications are measured in pixels therefore, it is imperative to always use the same zoom parameters before photobleaching to maintain consistent bleach data. For selective photobleaching of an entire compartment or organelle, a freehand drawing tool may be required to outline the ROI. [Pg.358]

For FRAP of the membrane, use a freehand drawing tool to create the ROl. This allows you to create the appropriate ROl when there are significant curves along the cell perimeter. However, to maintain consistency, you should maintain the maximum width along the membrane constant at 4.5 pm and the average depth below and above the membrane between 1 and 1.5 pm depending on how much the cell moved before bleaching. [Pg.363]

The direct-printing process does not require any sophisticated instrumentation. Basically, two pieces of equipment are required as fundamental tools a computer equipped with graphic software (e.g., Corel Draw, AutoCad, Macromedia FreeHand, or Microsoft Power Point) and a laser printer (although different brands provide different results as will be discussed later). Accessories such as an office laminator, a heating press (T-shirt transfer machine), and a paper driller represent the low-cost tools we have used. Finally, polyester films (transparency films or overhead projector films), wax paper sheets, a commercially available toner cartridge, microscope slides (glass) and CDs are the consumables, since they are used to produce microchips, microelectrodes, and integrated systems at very low cost. [Pg.1173]

Draw chemical structures freehand or with templates. [Pg.88]

It must not be thought that plotting the a values rather than log a values is useless. Even though it is very difficult to draw this kind of graph properly freehand, it can be done using the spreadsheet, just as... [Pg.67]

Now that we have described how to draw A/B diagrams freehand, let us see how use of a spreadsheet program can simplify the task. We will start with a generally useful spreadsheet we will call A/B START. A typical acid-base situation can serve as illustration. At the computer, call up your spreadsheet program. When the spreadsheet layout appears on the screen, let us first suitably label all the columns with the quantities needed in the problem, using the first row, starting with the critical variable, pH in cell Al. Now, in the adjacent columns, enter labels for these related and pertinent concentration variables in B1 [H], in Cl [OH], and in D1 log[H], in El log[OH]. [Pg.71]

Freehand technical sketching is the process of drawing technical images without the use of drafting tools such as a T square, a triangle, or a compass. [Pg.86]

This is also known as scale. If an object is drawn to full size, it would have a ratio of 1 1 (read as one-to-one or full scale ). If the object is drawn at one-half the actual size, it would have a ratio of 1 2 (read as one-to-two or one-half scale ). When doing freehand technical sketching, an engineer may need to draw a shape at full scale while on the same paper drawing the same shape at one-half scale. By doing this, the engineer makes sure the two sketches are proportional (see Figure 4-10). [Pg.93]

You may be saying to yourself, I can t draw. My drawings never look right Freehand technical sketching is an important skill. It is a simple one to learn with the right amount of practice. If you follow these easy techniques, you will soon be able to create freehand technical sketches. [Pg.99]

Second, a major advantage of freehand technical sketching is that it can be done quickly. Practicing this skill will allow you to increase the speed at which you draw. This will give you the ability to clearly and accurately communicate your thoughts. [Pg.101]
