Direct injection description

Description Ziegler-Natta and metallocene catalysts are directly injected into the reactor from storage whereas chromium catalysts are injected following activation of the catalyst via BP proprietary technology. The BP catalyst portfolio enables the production of a full-range of PE products with the same swing reactor using these three main catalyst families. [Pg.152]

ICP-AES is often used to determine the concentrations of various elements in a sample. However, an element may be present in a variety of chemical forms or species. By coupling an ICP-AES detector to an ion-chromatographic column, a more complete description of the sample species can be obtained. Such a coupling generally requires a nebulizer to introduce the column effluent into the ICP. Conventional pneumatic nebulizers operate at about 1 mL/min sample flow and may introduce as little as 1 % of the sample into the plasma. A newer direct-injection nebulizer (DIN) operates at sample flow rates only 5 to 10 % that of a conventional nebulizer [2. >). [Pg.138]

Descriptions of other sample introduction systems, including ultrasonic nebulization (USN), direct injection nebulization (DIN), and electrothermal vaporization (ETV), can be found in the literature [64—66]. [Pg.51]

Method of Moments The first step in the analysis of chromatographic systems is often a characterization of the column response to sm l pulse injections of a solute under trace conditions in the Henry s law limit. For such conditions, the statistical moments of the response peak are used to characterize the chromatographic behavior. Such an approach is generally preferable to other descriptions of peak properties which are specific to Gaussian behavior, since the statisfical moments are directly correlated to eqmlibrium and dispersion parameters. Clinically, ACTH stimulation of the adrenals is used diagnostically to detect adrenal insufficiency plasma cortisol levels are measured before and 60 minutes following an intravenous injection of cosyntropin. Adrenocortical insufficiency is known as Addison s disease Addison s classic description, in 1855, namely general debility, remarkable feebleness of the heart, irritability of the stomach, and a peculiar change of the colour of the skin , summarizes the clinical features of this disease, which is uniformly fatal if undetected and untreated. Therapeutically, corticotropin therapy has been essentially abandoned in favor of the direct administration of glucocorticoids. However, ACTH is still rarely used in the treatment of the infantile spasm seizure disorder. [Pg.348]

The term IM is an oversimplified description of a quite complicated process that is controllable within specified limits. Melted or plasticized plastic material is injected by force into a mold cavity (Figure 4.1). The mold may consist of a single cavity or a number of similar or dissimilar cavities, each connected to flow channels or runners which direct the flow of the melted plastic to the individual cavities (Chapter 17). The process is one of the most economical methods for mass production of simple to complex products. Three basic operations exist. They are the only operations in which the mechanical and thermal inputs of the injection equipment must be coordinated with the fundamental behavior properties of the plastic being processed. These three operations also are the prime determinants of the productivity of the process since manufacturing speed will depend on how fast we can heat the plastic to molding temperature, how fast we can inject it, and how long it takes to cool (or solidify) the product in the mold. [Pg.193]

Description Catalyst or metallocene is injected directly into the reactor as received in the case of Ziegler-Natta or after activation for chromium catalyst. Chromium catalysts give broad molecular-weight products and supported Ziegler-Natta catalysts produce narrow molecular-weight distribution products. The BP metallocene catalysts offer exceptional strength and clarity normally associated with metallocenes but combined with easy processing. [Pg.86]

In cases in which there is no response in animals after multiple injections, alternative animal species should be tried and the dose of antigen(s) increased. If this does not succeed, then attempts to enhance the antigenicity by direct modification methods can be tried. An excellent practical description of these techniques is found in ref. 7. Common methods include the following ... [Pg.405]

Phenomenon of Hsemoljrsis. — Althou a certain number of phenomena, relating to the study of antibodies come within the scope of this treatise, only brief descriptions are necessary to make clear the portions of more direct interest The phenomenon of haemolysis was discovered in 1899 1 7 Bordet. If repeated injections are made into the peritoneum of an animal A, a rabbit for example, of the red corpuscles of an animal B, for example, the sheep, suspended in ph3rsiological salt solution, the blood corpuscles of B being toxic for the organism A, the latter reacts, producing substances capable, under certain conditions, of neutralizing the injurious action of the red corpuscles.
