Behavioral properties

Poincare maps of this form have the obvious advantage of being much simpler to study than their differential-equation counterparts, without sacrificing any of the essential behavioral properties. They may also be studied as generic systems to help abstract behaviors of more complicated systems. [Pg.169]

The moisture content of a plastic affects such conditions as electrical insulation resistance, dielectric losses, mechanical properties, dimensions, and appearances. The effect on the properties due to moisture content depends largely on the type of exposure (by immersion in water or by exposure to high humidity), the shape of the product, and the inherent behavior properties of the plastic material. The ultimate proof for tolerance of moisture in a product has to be a product test under extreme conditions of usage in which critical dimensions and needed properties are verified. Plastics with very low water-moisture absorption rates tend to have better dimensional stability. [Pg.306]

Application to Long-Distance Pneumatic Conveying. From the above three classifications, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that powder classification (i.e., to select ultimately the most suitable mode of conveying for a given product and its behavioral properties) depends on the following properties ... [Pg.729]

Based on the foregoing discussion, it is possible to formulate some structure-activity relationships with respect to the behavioral properties of various trypt-amine derivatives. It should be noted that these structure-activity relationships are derived from the results of both human and animal studies. [Pg.70]

Some important dielectric behavior properties are dielectric loss, loss factor, dielectric constant, direct current (DC) conductivity, alternating current (AC) conductivity, and electric breakdown strength. The term dielectric behavior usually refers to the variation of these properties as a function of frequency, composition, voltage, pressure, and temperature. [Pg.443]

But was it pharmacologically active Here one finds a tricky road to walk. The animal toxicity and behavioral properties can be determined in a straightforward manner. Inject increasing amounts into an experimental animal and observe him closely. IDNNA was quite inert. But, it is a very close analogue to the extremely... [Pg.119]

No significant differences were seen in the entry time for trial 1, suggesting, no impairment in motor or behavioral properties. Latencies to enter the dark room were significantly increased after the initial exposure to the footshock, similar to adult levels. Furthermore, no extinction was seen throughout the ten-trial testing period. [Pg.279]

Environmental History. The complexity of their makeup might seem adequate deterrent to their systematic analysis of minerals, but, in addition to their makeup, crustal minerals bear an experience. In anthropomorphic terms, their behavior (properties) derives from both a heredity (composition and structure) and an... [Pg.9]

The term IM is an oversimplified description of a quite complicated process that is controllable within specified limits. Melted or plasticized plastic material is injected by force into a mold cavity (Figure 4.1). The mold may consist of a single cavity or a number of similar or dissimilar cavities, each connected to flow channels or runners which direct the flow of the melted plastic to the individual cavities (Chapter 17). The process is one of the most economical methods for mass production of simple to complex products. Three basic operations exist. They are the only operations in which the mechanical and thermal inputs of the injection equipment must be coordinated with the fundamental behavior properties of the plastic being processed. These three operations also are the prime determinants of the productivity of the process since manufacturing speed will depend on how fast we can heat the plastic to molding temperature, how fast we can inject it, and how long it takes to cool (or solidify) the product in the mold. [Pg.193]

Incentive arousal role of dopamine and the behavioral effects of psychostimulants. An incentive arousal role of DA is best suited to explain many behavioral properties of psychostimulants. Indeed, the notion of an incentive role of endogenous DA is largely derived from the role attributed to DA as the substrate of the effect of psychostimulants on reinforcement and instrumental responding (Di Chiara, 1995). Psychostimulants elicit typical unconditional incentive effects in the form of approach towards stimuli and exploratory behavior related to novelty of the context. Psychostimulants also facilitate conditioned reinforcement (the ability of a Pavlovian CS to elicit responding instrumental to its presentation) (Robbins et al., 1989), an effect involving preliminary Pavlovian association with a reward and therefore related to the incentive properties of the stimulus. [Pg.322]

The relevance of these observations for the role of DA in the behavioral properties of nonpsychostimulant drugs of abuse is unclear. Thus, systemic morphine and even systemic cocaine reportedly fail to increase the control over behavior by conditioned stimuli (Robbins et al., 1983). [Pg.324]

A 49-year-old man with severe mental retardation was given clonazepam 2 mg/day to treat aggression, self-injurious behavior, property destruction, and screaming, which got worse instead of better (6). When clonazepam was withdrawn, the behavior improved. [Pg.403]

Interest in v-i ydroxybutyric acid (or its sodium salt or the lactone) as an intravenous anesthetic continues. There appears to be some question whether the compound has sedative and hypnotic properties in low doses. Metcalf, Emde and Stripe studied EEC and behavioral properties of the compound in humans and reported that there was a sudden shift from responsivity to unconsciousness. On the basis of the EEC records, they speculate that the drug depresses reticular centers which ordinarily inhibit the onset of slow sleep. [Pg.29]
