This invaluable French-English, English-French dictionary includes both the literary and dated vocabulary needed by students, and the up-to-date slang and specialized vocabulary (scientific, legal, sporting, etc) needed in everyday life. As a passport to the French language, it is second to none. 

The set of possible data names can be restricted by a diction-aiy. which specifies which names can be used within a file to conform to the specified dictionary. Dictionaries can also be used to specify which data items will be processed by some software. In this case entries not defined by an appropriate dictionaiy will simply be ignored. Dictionaries arc defined in so-callcd dictionary definition language (DDL). Several commonly used dictionaries arc shown in Tabic 2-9. The field of metaHurgy has a unique and frequently very specialized vocabulary. Understanding this language helps to clarify certain concepts and processing steps. Of these sources, Kirk-Othmer s Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology is particularly recommended for questions on chemistry and on end uses. For information on properties and on toxicity and handling hazards, Patty s Industrial Hygiene, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and the Aldrich catalog are very nseful. Questions on industrial chemistry should be directed to Ullman s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, and the texts by Chenier, Heaton, and White. Hawley s Condensed Chemical Dictionary is valuable as a source for dehnitions of the terms (language) of chemistry.

In the American Chemical Society ACS Professional Reference Book series comes, The Language of Colloid and Interface Science - A Dictionary of Terms, Lau-rier L. Schramm, American Chemical Society, Washington, 1998 and a related text is Dictionary of Colloid and Interface Science, Laurier L. Schramm, Wiley, New York, 2001. Both were compiled to be read as dictionaries, but are thorough and well presented. 

To use a precise language properly, you must first define your terms once that s done, you can use the definition to avoid any further misunderstandings. There s no avoiding the possibility of mistakes with our dictionary definitions, but we can hope to make them as simple as possible and then get into the precise notation to deal with the complex relationships between the named things.

There is one separate tRNA for each amino acid and one separate specific synthetase. The enzyme must bind not only the correct amino acid but also the correct tRNA, so that each synthetase has specific recognition sites for both. Transfer RNAs contain a three-base sequence that is an anticodon, which binds to its complementary codon on messenger RNA. The importance of the synthetase in relation to fidelity of translating the information in messenger RNA is indicated by the fact that, once an amino acid is bound to tRNA, its identity as an amino acid is dictated by the anticodon site on the transfer RNA and not by the amino acid itself. (The enzyme can be considered as a dictionary, since it provides a cross-reference between the nucleic acid and amino acid languages.)...

Most of the genetic information stored in the genome codes for the amino acid sequences of proteins. For these proteins to be expressed, a text in nucleic acid language therefore has to be translated into protein language. This is the origin of the use of the term translation to describe protein biosynthesis. The dictionary used for the translation is the genetic code.
