In the introduction to his invaluable French-English Dictionary for Chemists (5), Austin M. Patterson mentions some very helpful hints for the translation of organic compounds from French, where the prefix or suffix is the key to the correct translation. They are quoted here, with his kind permission, because as a rule they also apply to Italian.

Ernst, R. 1985. Comprehensive Dictionary of Engineering and Technology. (2 vols.) New York Cambridge University Press. The set serves as a useful tool for translations. Volume 1 covers French-English and volume 2, English-French. 

ICOLD Technical Dictionary on Dams. Paris International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), (various editions French/English/German/Spanish/Italian/Portuguese). Multilingual with diagrams one of the best dictionaries of this type. 

For Polish two useful dictionaries are English-Polish Chemical Dictionary by Z. Bankowski and K. Radziwill (Warsaw, 1957) and the English-Polish and Polish-English Chemical and Pharmaceutical Dictionary of F. Mioduszewski (Warsaw, 1956). The Chemicky Slovnik of E. Votocek (Prague, 1952) covers Czech, German, French, English, Italian and Latin.
