The following table can only give a short overview of the most important or most used databases in Chemistiy and Biochemistry, It has no intention to be comprehensive or complete since the scenery of databases is changing very fast. [Pg.278]

Similarity searching is the database implementation of the similarity concept. Some of the steps involved in similarity searching are overviewed next, in the context of chemoinformatics. [Pg.310]

The World Wide Web has transformed the way in which we obtain and analyze published information on proteins. What only a few years ago would take days or weeks and require the use of expensive computer workstations can now be achieved in a few minutes or hours using personal computers, both PCs and Macintosh, connected to the internet. The Web contains hundreds of sites of Interest to molecular biologists, many of which are listed in Pedro s BioMolecular Research Tools (http // www.fmi.ch/biology/research tools.html). Many sites provide free access to databases that make it very easy to obtain information on structurally related proteins, the amino acid sequences of homologous proteins, relevant literature references, medical information and metabolic pathways. This development has opened up new opportunities for even non-specialists to view and manipulate a structure of interest or to carry out amino-acid sequence comparisons, and one can now rapidly obtain an overview of a particular area of molecular biology. We shall here describe some Web sites that are of interest from a structural point of view. Updated links to these sites can be found in the Introduction to Protein Structure Web site (http // WWW.ProteinStructure.com/). [Pg.393]

This chapter has only scratched the surface of the multitude of databases and data reviews that are now available. For instance, more than 100 materials databases of many kinds are listed by Wawrousek et al. (1989), in an article published by one of the major repositories of such databases. More and more of them are accessible via the internet. The most comprehensive recent overview of Electronic access to factual materials information the state of the art is by Westbrook et al. (1995), This highly informative essay includes a taxonomy of materials information , focusing on the many different property considerations and property types which an investigator can be concerned with. Special attention is paid to mechanical properties. The authors focus also on the quality and relutbility of data, quality of source, reproducibility, evaluation status, etc., all come into this, and alarmingly. [Pg.497]

Several types of software were developed. One programme contains the questionnaire and allows each interviewer to upload all the answers from each interview to an internal common password-protected database accessible via the internet. Another programme displays an overview of each substep of each major step in each supply chain on a webpage, and by clicking on a... [Pg.501]

The first section is an overview of what a static model is about. Section 2.2 introduces objects, their attributes, and snapshots and distinguishes the concept of object identity from object equality. The attributes that model an object s state can be implemented in very different ways. Section 2.3 outlines some implementation variations using Java, a relational database, and a real-world implementation. [Pg.71]

With the increasing number of publications on block copolymer micelles (a database literature search with these three associated keywords already gives more than 500 references), an exhaustive description of all previous works would not be possible in the framework of the present review. This contribution has rather as its purpose giving a general overview about block copolymer micelles for the nonspecialist and will therefore try to answer such practical questions as how does one prepare block copolymer micelles How does one characterize them What are the different types of structures that can be formed How can we predict them How does one tune the morphology of these micelles These basic questions and the corresponding answers will be illustrated by selected examples. Then, we will focus on the new directions that are currently implemented in this field. [Pg.81]

It is clear that a broad mass market is not expected until after 2010 (Gummert and Suttor, 2006). But there are already a number of pilot and demonstration systems installed worldwide. It is very difficult to obtain a complete overview of installations because, on the one hand, the data are published by different players, such as utilities, manufacturers or users for their own fuel cells and, on the other hand, if an installation does not work, no data are published or sometimes the system is shut down. Nevertheless, Fuel Cells 2000 have set up a fuel cell database for stationary applications. Most entries are from the USA, but it should be pointed out that Japan installed 480 stationary plants in 2005 alone (Fuel Cell Development Information Centre, personal communication, 2006). [Pg.364]
