The nitrated product represented the combined nitrate salt nitrate ester of deacetylated chitin. This substance contd one nitric acid salt unit per anhydro-o-glucosamine unit and 1.60-1.65 nitrate ester unit per anhydro-o-glucosamine anhydro -N-acetyl-D -glucosammine units. Attempts to nitrate deacetylated chitin by means of nitrogen pent oxide, in a non-aqueous medium y in the presence of sodium fluoride, by the method of Caesar(Ref 2) were unsuccessful mainly because of occlusion of NaF in the nitrated products(Ref 3)... [Pg.575]

Rutkowski (33) reported the simultaneous colorimetric assay of salicylamide, salicylic acid and genetisic acid in pharmaceutical preparations. These compounds give hlue color complexes with ferric salt (nitrate in ethanol solution). The blue color complex of salicylamide is extracted with ether while the others are not. [Pg.536]

The EMEP monitoring network of precipitation chemistry consists of about a hundred stations distributed in almost 30 countries across Europe.1 All of these measure inorganic ions as well as pH and conductivity. Figure 17.1 illustrates the concentration levels of sulfate (corrected for sea salt), nitrate, and ammonium in 2006. The monitoring sites of heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are less densely distributed 2 in 2006, there were around 50 for heavy metals such as lead... [Pg.400]

There are two kinds of preservatives, class I and class II. Class I preservatives include common salt, sugar, glucose/sucrose syrup, acetic acid or vinegar, spices, and wood smoke. The addition of these to foods is not restricted. Class II preservatives include benzoic acid and its salts, nitrates and nitrites, sorbic acid and its salts, and sulfurous acid and its salts. Their addition to food is, however, restricted. [Pg.246]

Are lead salts (nitrate or chloride) appreciably hydrolyzed in aqueous solution Compare the basic strength of the hydroxide of divalent lead with that of aluminum hydroxide. [Pg.279]

Experiment Prepare a solution of a ferrous salt by dissolving 2 grams of ferrous ammonium sulphate in 20 cc. of water, adding a little dilute sulphuric acid and a piece of iron wire. Test both this solution and a solution of a ferric salt (nitrate or chloride) with potassium ferrocyanide, potassium ferricyanide, and potassium sulphocyanate. Tabulate the results. These constitute the standard tests for ferrous and ferric salts. Write equation. [Pg.345]

The substitution of a primary amino group by a nitro group generally occurs by diazotization and the Sandmeyer reaction. ( Komer and Contardi reaction ) [222], In certain cases, diazonium salt nitrates, when boiled in aqueous solution, are converted to nitrophenols. For example p-toluidine, when diazotized in nitric acid solution, forms nitro-p-cresol after the solution had been brought to the boil (Nolting and E. Wild [203a]) ... [Pg.130]

In general, a similar behavior is expected from bromide salts, nitrate salts, perclorate (CI04) salts, fluoride salts, sulfate salts, hydroxides, and phosphates... [Pg.60]

Ammonium tetrathiocyanatomercurate(II)-cobalt sulphate test This test is similar to that described under reaction 8, except that a minute amount of a dilute solution of a cobalt salt (nitrate, sulphate or acetate) is added. Coprecipitation of the cobalt tetrathiocyanatomercurate(II) yields a blue precipitate composed of mixed crystals of Zn[Hg(SCN)4] + Co[Hg(SCN)4], Iron(II) salts give a red colouration but this can be eliminated by the addition of a little alkali fluoride (colourless [FeF6]3- ions are formed). Copper salts should be absent. [Pg.275]

Fission products Cesium (Cs), strontium (Sr), barium (Ba), and technetium (Tc) are main isotopes present as salts (nitrates and chlorides). Tc may be present as oxides All salts are soluble. Tc oxidizes as soluble pertechnetate, but in reduced state, it is less soluble... [Pg.219]

Ammonia possesses similar physical properties to that of water, which is similarly highly associated. It is a good solvent for many compounds. Owing to the lower dielectric constant (NH3 16.9, H2O 78.3 at 298 K) of ammonia in comparison with water, less polar compounds are more soluble in ammonia and polar compounds, for example, salts, are more soluble in water. Organic compounds tend to have a higher solubihty in ammonia than in water. Armnonium salts, nitrates, nitrites, cyanides, and thiocyanates dissolve readily in ammonia. The solubihty increases from fluorides to chlorides, bromides, and iodides. Salts with higher charged ions dissolve only poorly in ammonia. This results in the reversal of some precipitation reactions in ammonia compared to water. [Pg.3037]

Method. Rich ethylene-oxygen—nitrogen flames are stabilized on a cylindrical burner which is enclosed in a vessel fltted with quartz windows. Metals are added to the flames by electrically heating a pearl of salt (nitrates or chlorides) introduced into the nitrogen flow, and their concentration is determined from loss of weight. [Pg.179]

Nitration with mixtures of nitric and phosphoric acids Nitration with mixtures of nitric and acetic acid (or acetic anhydride) Nitration in mixtures and solutions including inactive substances Nitration with nitric acid in the presence of inorganic salts Nitration with nitrogen oxides Celluronic acid nitrates (carboxycelluloses nitrates)... [Pg.345]

Soluble Salts. Nitrates are sometimes mixed with nitrocellulose and may be determined by extraction with water. [Pg.434]
