Until the 1970s, solar ponds were constmcted and operated as more of an art than a science. Since then, rising land value, environmental conscientiousness, limited space, and rising costs have forced a scientific approach to solar pond optimization, design, and operation to make ponds more productive. 

Enamel Defects. Characterization of defects in porcelain enamel surfaces frequently requites detailed examination via microscopy to determine the sources of the defects. Defects ate divided into processing and material defects. The greatest number of defects result from processing bhsters, pinholes, black specks, dimples, tool marks, and chipping. Defects often occur from unobserved sources at almost every stage of the enameling process, but they ate not recognizable until the ware is fired. Conscientious process control helps to minimize the incidents of unacceptable finishes. 

Corporate environmentalism is an evolving concept for environmental protection. In this case, business takes a pro-active stance independent of regulatory authorities. This can be in recognition of social responsibilities, but is more successful when compelled by competition in the market place. Thus, a hrm can conscientiously target environmentally aware consumers (through marketing environmentally friendly products or processes) or can be better placed for hnancial support from ethical investment funding bodies. 

The client s personnel who had close involvement in the toll can best determine the toller s future status. A recommendation to use the toller again can be based upon the total experience including audit results and the toller s action item follow-up. When used judiciously, the advantages of QRA can outweigh the associated problems and costs. Companies that prudently commission QRAs and conscientiously act on the resulting recommendations are better off for two reasons (1) they have a better base of information to make decisions and (2) their judicious use of QRA technology represents another demonstration of responsible concern for the health and safety of workers and the public. However, companies should resist the indiscriminate use of QRA as a means to solve all problems since this strategy could waste safety improvement resources, diverting attention from other essential safety activities. Once executives are able to interpret and use QRA results, they will appreciate that the quality of their decisions rests largely on their ability to understand the salient analysis assumptions and the limitations of the results. 

When the user and the vendor have worked together as a team, and if all people included give sufficient attention to details, the on-stream operation should be very smooth. While there are many details and, at times, endless questions to resolve, the conscientious pursuit of each item, no matter how trivial it may appear at the time, should result in an achievement of the objective. The unit should start and come on-stream with a minimum of effort.

It is worth noting that personnel managers who were interviewed as part of the above study had few expectations that selection would enable them to overcome inadequate training, job, or work design. Selection was seen as something that had to be done completely and conscientiously in order to make the best decisions possible. There was no expectation that, on its own, selection would solve operating problems.

Chemical parameters (e.g., partition coefficients, decay rates, temperature and moisture effects) are not usually considered as calibration parameters because they can be measured in a laboratory moreover, calibration is usually not possible due to lack of observed data.
