Al—Cr. Although no commercial ahoys are based on this system, chromium [7440-47-3] Cr, is an ingredient of several complex and commercially significant ahoys (Fig. 16. The Cr is added for control of grain stmcture. The Al—Cr system has a peritectic portion at 661°C where soHd solubiHty is 0.7% Cr and Hquid solubiHty is 0.4% Cr. Free2ing of binary ahoys containing >0.4% Cr produces coarse primary crystals (metallic inclusions) of AlyCr [12005-37-7] which may adversely affect mechanical properties. In complex ahoys, the Hquid solubiHty can be reduced such that formation of primary AlyCr crystals may occur at significantly lower Cr contents. 

It is obvious that these physical defects are dangerous in their own right but it is also possible for them to lead to subsequent corrosion problems, e.g. pitting corrosion at superficial non-metallic inclusions and crevice corrosion at pores or cracks. Other weld irregularities which may give rise to crevices include the joint angle, the presence of backing strips and spatter (Fig. 9.29). Butt welds are to be preferred since these produce a crevice-free profile and, furthermore, allow ready removal of corrosive fluxes. 

Either process can only be successful if good quality metal is supplied, for example with uniform grain size and freedom from non-metallic inclusions, and the pretreatments are applied conscientiously. 

Pitting caused by the dissolution of non-metallic inclusions can increase the value. Consequently, the microstructures of specimens with a high value must be examined to identify the source of the elevated value. In general, P values below 0-10 are characteristic of unsensitised microstructures, while sensitisation is indicated if P, exceeds 0-4. Single loop tests are sensitive to mild degrees of sensitisation but do not readily distinguish between medium and severely sensitised materials. 

B 977 525 354 2.44 14 Blistering was detected with ultrasonic examination in catalytic reformer piping. Metallography indicated surface decarburization and blistering at non-metallic inclusions, with intergranular cracks growing from the blisters. Cr content was 1.10 percent.

These authors have also employed this technique for the study of other metallic inclusions into poly(3-methylthiophene) films, including Ir, Au, and Pt. Thus, this type of arrangement could open up new exciting possibilities in terms of kinetic studies. 

Concentrations of zinc in tissues of aquatic organisms are usually far in excess of that required for normal metabolism. Much of the excess zinc is bound to macromolecules or present as insoluble metal inclusions in tissues (Eisler 1981, 1984, 1993 USEPA 1987). Diet is the most signihcant source of zinc for aquatic organisms and is substantially more important than uptake from seawater (Eisler 1981, 1984). In general, zinc concentrations in sediments and tissues of aquatic organisms are elevated in the vicinity of smelters and other point sources of zinc, and decrease with increasing distance (Ward et al. 1986 Table 9.4). 

Other REti Alloys, None of the many other KiM containing alloys are used in steelmaking today with the possible exception of Russian alloys of which we know little. Their ferrocerium is in fact very similar to our mischmetal in most references Q) The only other PJEM compound still in use in a few U,S, shops" is called by its trade name T-compound, This mixture of REM oxides and fluorides was used during World War II as a fluxing agent for non-metallic inclusions in the early production of aircraft quality alloy steels in electric arc furnaces (22). 

The present study was initiated in order to obtain quantitative data on the relative adsorption potentials of metal ions in the region of the z.p.c. of hydrous manganese oxide. This information is of considerable importance in a variety of practical phenomena ranging from the mechanism of trace metal inclusion in ocean-floor manganese nodules and pisolitic manganese ores to the sorption behavior of manganese precipitates in natural water and waste systems. 

Lead curse tablets from Roman Carthage contain variable amounts of very small metallic inclusions. Electron microprobe analysis confirmed these metallic inclusions were bronze, brass, and a Sn-Sb alloy. This was interpreted as possible evidence of lead metal recycling. Six samples were chosen to represent a range of tablets containing the minimum to the maximum number of inclusions. Thermal ionization mass spectrometry of the Pb isotopes in the curse tablets appear to define a mixing line, with the tablets containing the least number of inclusions plotting closest to the Tunisian lead ore isotope ratios. 

From a raw-material loading assembly (or a grinding assembly) a mixture of appropriate constituents is fed at a constant speed to an intermediate t ank (2) by a metering unit. The raw material passes through a magnetic separator wherein metallic inclusions are removed. 

Subcellular Organelles. Toxic metals may disrupt the structure and function of a number of organelles. For example, enzymes associated with the endoplasmic reticulum may be inhibited, metals may be accumulated in the lysosomes, respiratory enzymes in the mitochondria may be inhibited, and metal inclusion bodies may be formed in the nucleus. 

Simultaneous evaporation of metal with organic and inorganic substances followed by vapor deposition on a substrate allows the production of composite films containing M nanoparticles stabilized in various dielectric matrices [2, 28]. The use of monomer molecules in this process polymerizing during deposition or as a result of the subsequent reactions yields polymeric nanocomposite films with metal inclusions [2, 3, 28, 37]. The new low-temperature synthesis of polymeric nanocomposite films has been elaborated recently. This synthesis is based on the deposition of M/SC and monomers vapors at temperature 80 K followed by low-temperature solid-state polymerization of obtained films in conditions of frozen thermal movement of molecules (cryochemical synthesis) [2], This synthesis has important features, which will be considered further. 

As described in Section II.2 variants of the permeation techniques use systems in which electronic and ionic pathways are locally separated, e.g., an ion conductor which is internally short-circuited by percolating metallic inclusions (or materials in which grain boundary and bulk possess different conductivity types (e.g., nano- Ce02)). In all these cases the permeation flux is determined by the lowest partial conductivity.
