All echo amplitudes between -12 dB and + 2 dB, with reference to 50% signal height on the screen, are detected and shown in a color scale display in steps of 2 dB. [Pg.777]

FIGURE 15 7 Electrostatic potential maps of (a) methanol and (b) methanethiol The color scales were adjusted to be the same for both molecules to allow for direct comparison The development of charge is more pronounced in the region surrounding the —OH group in methanol than it is for the —SH group in methanethiol... [Pg.649]

Color can be removed effectively and economically with either alum or ferric sulfate at pH values of 5—6 and 3—4, respectively. The reaction is stoichiometric and is a specific reaction of the coagulant with the color to form an insoluble compound (17). The dosage required may be as high as 100—150 mg/L (380—570 mg/gal). Raw-water colors may be as high as 450—500 units on the APHA color scale. The secondary MCL (maximum contaminant level) for color in the finished water is 15 units, although most municipal treatment plants produce water that seldom exceeds 5 units. [Pg.278]

Guanine is obtained fiom various fish including menhaden, herring, and alewives. To prepare the colorant, scales are scraped from the fish, levigated, and washed with water, and then made into one or more commercial forms, depending on the intended use. Typically, guanine is suppHed as a paste or suspension in water, castor oil, or nitrocellulose. Guanine is not a colorant in the strict sense but instead is used to produce iridescence in a product. [Pg.451]

Detection limit of periodate determination is 1,35 pg per sample. The color scale for visual test-determination has been constmcted in working range 5-50 pg periodate-ion per sample. [Pg.155]

Dynamics of a methane-air conical flame submitted to a convective wave of equivalence ratio perturbations,/= 175 Hz, and = 0.1. The mass fraction perturbation is shown on the color scale. The flame is represented by temperature isocontours. Two cycles of modulation are displayed. [Pg.91]

Images of the flame propagation process in an HCSI engine. Color scale qualitatively represents burning intensity. The presence of the spark is highlighted in the first image. [Pg.180]

Light is the primary carrier of photosynthetic energy and also the initial producer of natural food colorants. To speak about the color of an object is to speak simultaneously about the illuminating light source, light transmitting medium, object properties, eye sensitivity, and conventions about color scales. Teleologically viewed, food color has two ambivalent main functions ... [Pg.4]

Although Equation 10.17 is written in terms of concentration of a specific component, it can also be used if the identity of the solute is unknown. For example, adsorption is used to remove color from liquids. In such cases, the concentration of solute can be measured, for example, by a colorimeter and Equation 10.17 expressed in terms of arbitrary units of color intensity, providing the color scale varies linearly with the concentration of the solute responsible for the color. [Pg.191]

Figure 5 FTIR transmission image of a PA/PTFE blend (left) and SEM image from the same area (right). PTFE distribution was calculated from the 1,210 cm 1 C-F absorption (intensity cf. color scale in the middle). The arrow indicates from where on the image the IR spectrum was extracted. The orange ovals show identical PTFE clusters as detected by FTIR and SEM, respectively. (See Color Plate Section at the end of this book.)...
