Lamination Process methods

By this process lemon oils are found to contain some 2 5 to 3 per cent, aldehydes, hand-pressed lime oil 8 per cent., citron or cedrat oil 4 per cent., and orange oil 0 75 to 1 per cent, but more recent work has shown that these results are somewhat too low, due probably in part to some of the aldehydes distilling over with the terpenes, and for oils containing only a small percentage of aldehydes, a volumetric method, such as the hydroa lamine process, as modified by A. H. Bennet is much to be preferred, as being both simpler and more rapid to carry out, and also. more accurate. 

The conditions to be met in decorative printing are particularly demanding. Decorative papers for gravure and flexographic printing are used to produce laminated plastic sheets. Pigment selection is a matter not only of the type of resin (melamine or polyester), but also a function of the processing method. 

The methodology presented is generic and can be applied to other types of materials, laminate constructions, and processing methods. In all cases a characterization of the cure state is needed first. As a result, models must be developed to predict the mechanical response as a function of the cure state. Mechanics models can then be developed for the specific application of interest. 

Laminating lends itself to the manufacture of resilient products with a large flat surface area and excellent surface properties. These products can be converted to their final form by thermoforming and insert molding. This method avoids the use of paint with its negative side effects, that is, the influence of solvents on the physical properties of the injection-molded part (tension and plasticizing effect). The lamination process also circumvents the optical problem of flow and weld lines. 

There are many other processing methods which can reduce the viewing angle dependence of the optical properties of LCDs, e.g. pixel-divided cells and multidomain cells. However, these are beyond the scope of this monograph and will not be discussed further. Optical retardation sheets are often preferred by LCD manufacturers and systems integrators of FPDs, because commercially available compensation films can simply be laminated to the LCD using contact bonding.

Ordered polymer films made from poly benzthiazole (PBZT) and poly benzoxazole (PBO) can be used as substrates for multilayer printed circuit boards and advanced interconnects to fill the current need for high speed, high density packaging. Foster-Miller, Inc. has made thin substrates (0.002 in.) using biaxially oriented liquid crystal polymer films processed from nematic solutions. PBZT films were processed and laminated to make a substrate with dielectric constant of 2.8 at 1 MHz, and a controllable CTE of 3 to 7 ppm/°C. The films were evaluated for use in multilayer boards (MLBs) which require thin interconnect substrates with uniform controllable coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), excellent dielectric properties, low moisture absorption, high temperature capability, and simple reliable processing methods. We found that ordered polymer films surpass the limitations of fiber reinforced resins and meet the requirements of future chip-to-chip interconnection.
