Coat quality control system

Such a subunit structure permits the construction of the virus partieles by a proeess in which the subunits self-assemble into structures held together by non-eovalent intermolecular forces as occurs in the process of erystallization. This eliminates the need for a sequenee of enzyme-catalysed reactions for coat synthesis. It also provides an automatic quality-control system, as subunits which may have major stmctural defects fail to become ineorporated into complete partieles. [Pg.55]

Improved processes and quality control have helped to establish these new coating materials but the care necessary for successful use has to be appreciated. Sections 11.1 and 11.2 have shown how necessary it is to remove millscale before coating and how scale-free surfaces may still retain seeds of further corrosion even when apparently cleaned well. The percentage of premature failures with sophisticated systems is still high, even on apparently well-prepared surfaces and there is a strong case for effective inspection at each stage of coating operations. [Pg.1153]

Adhesion tests can be broken into two categories qualitative and quantitative. They vary from a simple Scotch tape test to a complicated flyer tape test, which requires precision-machined specimens and a very expensive testing facility. Quantitative (such as peeling) tests have been developed for coatings on plastics (12), but not to the same extent for metal-to-metal systems. The quantitative testing systems in limited use, mainly in the electronics industry, are not commonly present in production plants but have been used to aid in process development. For quality control purposes, qualitative tests for metal-to-metal adhesion (13) are usually adequate. The adhesion of some plated metal parts is improved with baking for 1 to 4 h at relatively low (120 to 320°C) temperatures. [Pg.233]

During the coating process, controlled conditions and coating weight should be monitored periodically by the operators to assure that the environment is appropriate to reduce the content of residual solvents and to attain proper curing. The thickness of the casting solution layer should be controlled and used to assess the final quality of the systems manufactured. [Pg.304]

These systems may be constructed of a plastic or polymeric material loaded with active ingredients or a coated metal. Each of these systems is generally marketed in a single-unit soft blister pack or a preformed tray with a preformed cover or overwrap. The compatibility and safety for topical delivery systems are addressed in the same manner as for topical drug products. Performance and quality control should be addressed for the rate-controlling membrane. [Pg.169]

Erosion. Attrition of the film by natural weathering which may expose the substrate. This is normal in any paint system. It becomes a defect only if it occurs within the expected lifetime of the coating. In this case, the cause may be the incorrect choice of binder and pigment types, or poor quality control. [Pg.251]

Besides screening, the robotic system allows detailed investigation of sensor parameters and quality control measurements. A Ni-porphyrin of the library was electrochemically deposited on a platinum disc electrode (d = 250 pm), dip coated with Nafion, and evaluated in the robotic system. Each well can be used for calibration... [Pg.357]

Molded urethane technology in the immediate future should not be limited by mold release considerations, but the role of the mold release in new systems should be considered early in the plans. Regulations for air quality control and worker safety are expected to create a continuing shift to water-based mold releases, or at least some means of greatly reducing the amount of solvent evaporated. Some progress seems likely in use of semi-permanent release coatings which can be renewed by periodic application of a top coat. [Pg.574]

From the basic chemical industry come raw materials to use in large-scale formulation of the new product. From the vast fermentation vats come antibiotics. In laboratory-like formulation facilities, the mixing, baking, compressing, coating, and other pharmaceutical processes take place, under the watchful eye of quality control inspectors. In the space-age-clean rooms of biological production, virus vaccines are grown, harvested, purified, and endlessly tested. From start to finish, statistical, numerical, procedural, physical, chemical, and analytical control systems attempt to reduce to near-zero the potential error, mixup, distortion, or hazard. [Pg.279]

Manufacturing processes are a second area for innovation. Scale-up of new membrane materials from the lab to pilot scale is a nontrivial task. Robust coating processes, flexible packaging, and more effective quality control tools could all improve the manufacturing yields and costs associated with membrane systems. This could have an immediate impact in areas where membranes are a technically viable solution, but are not currently economically competitive with alternate separation technologies. [Pg.500]

Dip coating (or tumble coating) is ideal for small, mass-produced articles requiring single coat paint application. Quality of finish is not as high as spray coating and control of film thickness is difficult. Solvents used tend to be relatively simple systems of either medium or slow-evaporating solvents, the exact choice... [Pg.169]
