Blister pack

Cellulose acetate-propionate (Tenite Propionate-Kodak) is similar to cellulose propionate. With the shorter side chains, cellulose propionate and cellulose acetate propionate tend to be harder, stiffer and of higher tensile strength than CAB. Like CAB they are easy to vacuum form and also tend to be used for similar applications such as steering wheels, tool handles, safety goggles and blister packs.

The metering of dry powder inhalers is closely linked to the device itself and may be divided into three common systems capsules, multidosing blister packs, and reservoir systems. The consideration that goes into these metering systems include convenience to the patients, stability on storage, compatibility with product, and ease of filling. 

The packaging systems used were discussed in some detail in several EPARs. The number of products requiring a desiccant of some type is quite a high proportion of the total. In many cases both blister packs (of various compositions) and bottles (glass or plastics) were used for the same product. Effectiveness in protecting light-sensitive active ingredients and products is mentioned in the EPARs. Child resistance and tamper evidence is also mentioned.

In addition to these regulatory issues there are some homemade limitations to common quality documentation (e.g. normally, pharmaceutical companies prefer to market tablets in polyethylene bottles in the United States, in contrast to blister packs for the European market and different trade names, colours or pack sizes are also unavoidable in certain cases). The consequence of these differences is the fact that a common Module 3 (Quality) and therefore a common Quality Summary in Module 2 cannot be compiled. 

Orally disintegrating tablets - Administration with liquid is not necessary. The orally disintegrating tablet is packaged in a blister within an outer aluminum pouch. Instruct patients not to remove the blister from the outer pouch until just prior to dosing. The blister pack should then be peeled open with dry hands and the orally disintegrating tablet placed on the tongue, where it will dissolve and be swallowed with saliva.

The tablet will disintegrate rapidly on the tongue and can be swallowed with saliva. Use the tablet immediately after removal from the blister it cannot be stored. No water is needed. Do not attempt to split the tablet.
