CO, sequestration

Another problem is when the carbon dioxide content of natural gas is too high and must be lowered to produce pipeline-quality gas. Although the current practice is to vent this CO, sequestration of CO, in underground geologic formations is being considered. Already, in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, CO, has been injected into saline aquifers at a rate of 1 million tons a year to avoid... [Pg.915]

There are other benefits associated with urban trees. These include improvement in life quality increased property values and decreased rain run-off and hence flood protection. Trees also directly sequester atmospheric COj, but the direct sequestration of CO, is less than one-fourth of the emission reduction from savings in cooling-energy use. [Pg.306]

The steam reforming of natural gas process is the most economic near-term process among the conventional processes. On the other hand, the steam reforming natural gas process consists of reacting methane with steam to produce CO and H2. The CO is further reacted or shifted with steam to form additional hydrogen and CO2. The CO2 is then removed from the gas mixture to produce a clean stream of hydrogen. Normally the CO2 is vented into the atmosphere. For decarbonization, the CO2 must be sequestered[l,2]. The alternative method for hydrogen production with sequestration of carbon is the thermal decomposition of methane. [Pg.421]

The host lattices are frequently prepared from ZnS, Zn xCdxS2, alkaline earth carbonates, MHP04 (M = Ca, Sr, or Ba), and MNH4P04 H20 (M = Cd or Mn).8 The general (industrial method) of preparation involves precipitation of the phosphor itself, or an intermediate, from solutions of pure cationic and anionic precursors. The purity of all materials used is vital, and impurities must not be present at levels great than 1.0 ppm. Impurities, which are detrimental to phosphor quality and are usually referred to as killers , 4 may include M2+ (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Pd, and Pt), M3+ (M = Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Ru, Zr, Nb, Mo, Rh, Hf, Ta, and W), and M4+ (M = Os, Ir, and Re). Such cations are usually removed by precipitation or sequestration by selective chelation on solutions before processing.8... [Pg.698]

Hydrogen can be produced from carbon-free or carbon-neutral energy sources or from fossil fuels with CO capture and storage (sequestration). Thus, the use of hydrogen could eventually eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector. [Pg.265]

Abstract Alkaloids are a special group of secondary compounds and are part of an organism s adaptation mechanism to its living environment. They are not toxic when stored, but become toxic as a result of cell pH change. The defensive function of alkaloids is only secondary, and connected to internal immune and regulation processes. Animal responses to alkaloids are very diverse. Some animals can tolerate alkaloids relatively well, while others are harmed or even poisoned by them. Animal behaviour in relation to alkaloids depends on evolutionary and co-evolutionary factors. Sequestration of alkaloids is connected with these processes. Alkaloids are a part of plant-derived nutrition. A selective toxicity of these compounds in vertebrates is clearly observed. Vertebrates have the capacity to recognize alkaloids. [Pg.205]

It forms numerous salts, some of which are listed in Ref 4, p 466 L. It has been used for determination of about 40 metals and several anions (Ref 2) also used for decontamination of radioactive surfaces and removal of insol deposits of Ca Mg soaps (Ref 4). Its application in volumetric titrations is discussed in Ref 3. Accdg to Alrose Chem Co, PO Box 1294, Providence, RI, EDTA dissolves Ca oxalate and serves as a sequestrene. The term sequestration may be used for any instance in which an ion is prevented from exhibiting its usual props due to close combination with an added material (Ref 4, p 1013 L) ... [Pg.111]

Carbon dioxide emissions from the agricultural sector in OECD countries are estimated at less than 1% of overall COj emissions (IPCC 2001). Net emissions of CO, from agriculture depend upon the direct and indirect use of fossil fuels, and on the amount of carbon sequestration in soil organic matter and crop growth (Shepherd et al. 2003). [Pg.275]
