Logs cut from trees felled during late winter and early spring in temperate climates generally exhibit higher green moisture contents than those harvested during summer and fall.

The business climate of the 1990s is different from the past. Factors such as increased competition, a global marketplace, rapid technical shifts, and greatly compressed product life cycles constantly open new opportunities for plastics in general and reinforced plastics in particular. Reinforced plastics have become widely accepted for particular appHcations because they offer a combination of design, performance, and economic benefits to the user. These materials have had a proven record of success since the 1940s. 

Composition. Molasses composition depends on several factors, eg, locality, variety, sod, climate, and processing. Cane molasses is generally at pH 5.5—6.5 and contains 30—40 wt % sucrose and 15—20 wt % reducing sugars. Beet molasses is ca 7.5—8.6 pH, and contains ca 50—60 wt % sucrose, a trace of reducing sugars, and 0.5—2.0 wt % raffinose. Cane molasses contains less ash, less nitrogenous material, but considerably more vitamins than beet molasses. Composition of selected molasses products is Hsted in Table 7. Procedures for molasses analysis are avadable (59). 

A pressure filter is a plate-and-frame press which operates on an intermittent time cycle. Drier cakes are generally attainable from a filter press. Sludge drying beds are usually used for smaller sludge volumes, which drain and dry rapidly. Thein appHcation is usually restricted to the more arid climates. 

Only those grades of emulsified asphalt in general use have been indicated herein. It is possible that under certain variation of aggregates and/or climatic conditions, additional selections might be appropriate. Where the use of emulsified asphalt for appHcations other than those Hsted in the table are contemplated, the emulsion suppHer should be consulted. 

SBS membrane systems are generally installed in hot asphalt but can be installed using a torch like APP products or in some cold apphcation cement systems. Like APP systems, they are generally installed in multiple layers. The undedayment layers are generally standard BUR felts or basesheets. SBS membrane sheets can also be formulated to be self-adhering. These products are no longer used in membrane appHcations but are used as ice and water dam matedals on the eaves under shingle roofs in cold climates. 

High alumina minerals are found where intense weathering and leaching has dissolved the siHca. It is generally befleved that a very humid, subtropical climate is required for this (lateritic) stage of weathering. 

While this chapter is mainly concerned with the chemical interactions between ocean and atmosphere, a few words need to be said about the physical interactions, because of their general importance for climate. The main physical interaction between the ocean and atmosphere occurs through the exchange of heat, water and momentum, although the presence of sea-ice acts to reduce all of these exchanges to a greater or lesser extent.
