Cleaner and Degreaser

Stoddard solvent is a petroleum distillate widely used as a dry-cleaning solvent and as a general cleaner and degreaser. It may also be used as paint thinner, as a solvent in some types of photocopier toners, in some types of printing inks, and in some adhesives. Stoddard solvent is considered to be a form of mineral spirits, white spirits, and naphtha however, not all forms of mineral spirits, white spirits, and naphtha are considered to be Stoddard solvent. 

Is an oil-soluble emulsifier for mineral oils, fatty oils, softeners. It is used as a cutting oil emulsifier, a solvent emulsifier in metal cleaners and degreasers, a W/O emulsifier for consumer pesticide aerosols, and as a lubricant component in textile processing. It also softens and lubricates leather during tanning. 

Is used in formulating controlled foaming detergents for commercial laundries, textile scouring, metal and hard surface cleaners, and degreasers.

Thompson s Concrete Care Cleaner and Degreaser [Thompson], TM for a liquid concrete cleaner. 

Besides the natural soiuces, there are also anthropogenic sources of pollution, which are divided into two categories stationary and mobile. Some stationary sources are factories, power plants, smelters, dry cleaners and degreasing operations whereas some mobile sourees are cars, buses, planes, trucks, and trains (U.S. EPA, 2002). 

Toluene (methylbenzene) and xylene (dimethylbenzene and xylol) are very common aromatic solvents widely used in glues, inks, dyes, lacquers, varnishes, paints, paint removers, pesticides, cleaners, and degreasers. The largest source of exposure to toluene is in the production and use of gasoline. Toluene is also frequently abused intentionally by inhaling paints containing toluene to induce a sniffer s high. ...

The normal paraffinic solvent blends sold by Exxon under the tradename of Norpar (Table 15.4) are also used in industrial and institutional cleaners and degreasing formulations. This series of solvents are similar in many respects to the Isopar and Exxsol solvent blends also used in cleaners and degreasers. The Norpar 13 and 15 can be formulated into noncombustible cleaners. The Norpar solvents may be used in certain applications involving incidental food contact under several FDA regulations. Exxon Chemical can supply details about the regulated applications.
