Chemisches Zentralblatt Patent index

From around 1850, cover applied and pure chemistry. Excellent abstracts of patents and literature, some not found in Chemisches Zentralblatt subject index fairly adequate. Wagner has a rather complete German patent number index in the chemical field. [Pg.239]

Having obtained a reference from various sources or searches, one often needs to consult the original journal (the location of patents is discussed on p. ). The first step is to ascertain the full name of the journal, since it is the abbreviation that is generally given. Of course, everyone should be familiar with the abbreviations of the very important journals, such as J. Org. Chem., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and so on, but references are often found to journals whose titles are not at all familiar (e.g., K. Skogs Lantbruksakad. Tidskr. or Nauchn. Tr. Mosk. Lesotekh. Inst.). In such cases, one consults the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index (CASSI), with the most recent abbreviations in bold print. CASSI is available in a 1907-2004 cumulative, containing information 80,000 serial and nonserial publications. CASSI also lists journals covered by Chemisches Zentralblatt and its predecessors... [Pg.1909]

Chemical Abstracts, British Abstracts, and Chemisches Zentralblatt have patent indexes in which the numbers of the patents, issued in different countries and abstracted by them, are listed with the page of the abstracts on which they appear. When the number of a patent is known, finding an abstract of that patent presents no difficulties. [Pg.27]

In searching for patents on a certain subject, the index is used as in searching for information on any subject. In British Abstracts and Chemical Abstracts the reference entries under subject heading concerning patents are prefixed by the letter P, and in Chemisches Zentralblatt they are marked with an asterisk. The same prefixes are placed before the titles of patents in the author index, which also lists the names of the assignee. In Chemisches Zentralblatt the name of the country in which the patent was first issued is included after the title of the patent in the author index. [Pg.27]

Although there is at present no periodical publication devoted specifically to abstracts of German patents when granted and published, both Chemisches Zen-tralblatt and Chemical Abstracts pay attention to published German patents. Chemisches Zentralblatt used to refer, in its annual patent index, from duplicate patents to those originally granted in other countries since 1945, however, equivalent patents are referred to in the abstracts themselves (as is done by Chemical Abstracts). [Pg.142]

To find information about chemical patents reference must be made to the patent indexes of the abstract journals, especially Chemical Abstracts and Chemisches Zentralblatt. The new patent concordance in CA should be noted. The Chemical Abstracts Service has also published Chemical Patents in a similar format to Chemical Titles. It consists of an alphabetical list of keywords with the corresponding patent number. Reference to this in the... [Pg.210]

The Chemical Abstracts Service offers the direct connection from the CA abstract (where only the abbreviated journal title is mentioned) to the expanded title and the source of supply. The CAS Source Index provides this link. CASSI not only includes every type of publication, such as journals, technical reports, monographs, conference reports and patent groups, which have been cited in Chemical Abstracts from 1907 to the present time, but also all source material cited in Beilstein Handbuch der Organischen Chemie up to and including 1963 and in Chemisches Zentralblatt from 1830 to 1940. Libraries in 29 countries, which hold the cited journal or book, are named beside the publication source entry. The inventory of 361 libraries is listed, 290 cited in the USA, 71 in other countries. [Pg.98]
