Contract review is but one of the tasks in the contract acquisition process. These are marketing, prospect acquisition, tendering, contract negotiation, contract award, and then contract review. However, in a sales situation, you may simply have a catalog of products and services and a sales office taking orders over the telephone or over the counter. The contract review element of this operation takes a few seconds while you determine if you can supply the item requested. In an organization that produces products to specific customer requirements you may in fact carry out all the tasks in the contract acquisition process. Rather than isolate the contract review task and produce a procedure for this, your business may benefit more from a procedure or series of procedures that covers the contract acquisition process as a whole. [Pg.223]

If the customer is choosing from a catalog or selecting from a shelf of products, you need to ensure that the products offered for sale are properly described. Such descriptions must not be unrepresentative of the product, otherwise you may be in breech of national laws and statutes. In other situations you need some means of establishing that the customer requirements are adequate. [Pg.225]

Selecting equipment for a new laboratory calls for a careful study of catalogs and many discussions with sales representatives. As a rule, each item considered will have its good and its less desirable points. Choosing the most suitable make and model for a specific laboratory will often involve a compromise. [Pg.102]

The laboratory operator had a preference for steel furniture, which the engineering firm shared. Rather than accept their recommendation for a manufacturer, however, the laboratory operator accumulated a stack of catalogs and studied them carefully. There was a substantial price difference between brands and their features varied. One maker seemed to offer the right combination between price and desired features. The sales representative arranged for the laboratory operator s visit to where this furniture had been in service for about two years. It was carefully inspected with slamming of doors and opening of drawers. Although the finish had at times been exposed to chemicals, it had held up well. Best of all, the work benches were available on short notice. After much deliberation, a cheerful two-color scheme of... [Pg.146]

Coffee is now sold and marketed from a wide variety of distributors and vendors. These include delis, coffee stores and cafes, discount retailers, mail order and catalog companies, gift stores, and markets. The Specialty Coffee Association of America has compiled statistics about the retail value of coffee sales over the past 30 years.44 In 1969, the value of specialty coffee sales were 44 million. By 1979, this grew to 763 million and nearly doubled to 1.5 billion by 1989. [Pg.225]

Let s suppose we are starting a company that sells office equipment. There will be no showroom—only a catalog mailed to customers—and we ll have a warehouse and a telephone sales organization. We want to put together a system to assist its operations. [Pg.452]

Each store keeps copies ofa subset of the catalog for rent andfor sale, and each store sets its own rental prices (to adjust for local competition). For strategic purposes, statistics are kept of how often and when last a video has been rented in each store. It is also important to know how many are available in stock for rent and for sale. [Pg.590]

FDA commissioned a study of dietary supplement sales in the United States in 1999. Samples of products were purchased from a representative sample of retail establishments, catalogs, and the Internet. The authors looked at the consistency of botanical products purchased. Forty percent to 46% of botanicals and botanical products were consistent with the ingredients listed on the label. Botanical extracts were even less consistent with the label, only 12%i to 24%i (depending on where purchased) were found to be consistent... [Pg.7]

These Al values are listed as in Table 3.2, where the x, y, z, u, and s values indicate the polarity of the phases for each type of compound. Most chromatography supply catalogs now contain these "McReynolds constants" for the stationary phases offered for sale. [Pg.131]

Over 1500 AEC reports published in the usual scientific and technical journals are also listed in Nuclear Science Abstracts. However, over 1600 reports not published in journals or listed in the NNES are for sale by OTS, from which price lists may be obtained. These reports are also listed in the monthly catalog of the Government Printing Office. Nearly all the nonclassified AEC research and development reports which are not published in journals or in the NNES are supplied to 40 depository libraries located throughout the country and are thus readily available to literature searchers. A list of these libraries is contained in a booklet, Availability of US AEC Research and Development Reports 21). [Pg.154]

Many federal documents, particularly those on environmental subjects, are obtainable from the National Technical Information Service (NTIS). NTIS, an agency of the U. S. Department of Commerce, is the central source for the public sale of U. S. sponsored research, development and technical reports. The Monthly Catalog lists by agency and is available from GPO. Many publications on safety and toxicology that relate to chemical industry needs, however, must be obtained from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Cincinnati. Securing state documents can be equally frustrating. [Pg.44]
