Tn comparing the content of drug extract in the final product, teas in granule form are usually very much inferior to instant teas which arc prepared from spray-dried extracts teas in granular form, in addition to 97 -98% filler and carrier substances often contain only 2-3% dry extract, while in spray-dried products almost ten times as much, viz on average 20%, drug extract is present. [Pg.23]

The typical flavour load of a spray-dried product amounts to 18-25%. Besides the drying process, the flavour components are also encapsulated in the carrier matrix. After the slurry has been atomised , all volatile components, including water, which are located at the surface of the droplet are immediately evaporated. Thereby the remaining carrier substance forms a membrane around the droplet. This membrane is semipermeable and inhibits further evaporation of flavour molecules. This production step is controlled by diffusion mechanisms. Recovery of DNA from dilute solutions (<10 pg DNA/mL) can be enhanced by the addition of an appropriate carrier substance before ethanol precipitation. Molecular biology grade glycogen, which is available commercially, is added to the sample at a concentration of 20 to 40 pg/mL before the addition of ethanol. The dilute DNA solutions can also be concentrated by repeated extraction with. vec-butanol (mixing the solution by inverting several times) followed by centrifugation at 3000 x g for 5 minutes at room temperature, discarding the butanol phase each time. Hydrates of most heavy metal nitrates have low melting points. Thus, on heating, they liquefy, decompose and leave sintered or foamed oxides of low surface area.
