In most cases, brand names are chosen for a finished pharmaceutical product, that is, for one or various active drug substances in a defined dosage form and formulation. Therefore, pharmaceutical preparations containing the same active drug substance are frequently sold under different brand/trade names, not only in different countries, but even within the same country (see Figure 43.1). [Pg.867]

Azoles are not very soluble at acidic pH levels (less than 0.5 % solubility) but are increasingly so under alkaline pH conditions. These products usually are supplied as the sodium salt. For example, TTA is available as a 50% sodium salt solution under the trade name Cobratec TT-100/T-50-S from PMC Specialties, Inc. It is also available as a powder and 80% strength product under the names Beldene 511 and 512 from BioLabs/Great Lakes Chemical Corp. (The brand originally was held by Ciba-Geigy, then FMC, and now BioLabs/GLC.)... [Pg.401]

Even the most reliable contractor or subcontractor may not be familiar with the requirements of a laboratory. He bases his bid on standard materials and procedures that he is accustomed to using for general construction. On the other hand, he may also throw in sophisticated and costly extras that are not required. It is for these reasons that everything must be well defined and crosschecked. Specifying materials and components by trade name is recommended. In many cases, of coimse, other brands could be acceptable, but it should be agreed that a switch can not be made without the laboratory operator s knowledge and approval. [Pg.96]

All brand names and product names used in this book are trade names, service marks, trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. Patent expiry does not spell the replacement of the possible monopoly with a situation of competition, for a number of reasons. One of these is the factor of the brand names or trade names with which laboratories identify their products. [Pg.87]

The reduction of the part played by brands and trade names, or even their abolition in favour of generic names, is a strategy that seems to encourage competition without causing side effects from the point of view of social interests. [Pg.90]

An elastomer made by substituting chlorine and sulphonyl chloride groups into polyethylene. The material is best known by the trade name Hypalon, which is the DuPont trade mark for their brand of chlorosulphonated polyethylene. [Pg.17]

In an open-book situation, expect a number of proprietary (trade) names or diseases. Although candidates are allowed to look up all the trade names in the textbooks available, in an examination this is not practical and sometimes impossible to achieve in the allocated time. Check the active ingredients of a proprietary name only when necessary or when in doubt. You are expected to have a good knowledge of most brands and pharmaceutical manufacturers (Q26-40). [Pg.456]
