Blends of silicones

Ghosh, A. and De, S.K. Dependence of Physical Properties and Processing Behavior of Blends of Silicone Rubber and Fluorombber on Blend Morphology. Rubber Chem. Technol. 77(5), 856-872, November/December 2004. [Pg.348]

The different decomposition pathways of the various (fluoromethyl)silanes do not only determine the composition of the gas phase products but also the composition and the texture of the deposited Si/C/H/F materials. They were shown to consist of carbon and a blend of silicon-carbon based frameworks containing some Si-H and C-H bonds by XPS, SEM, IR, and Raman spectroscopy [26]. [Pg.28]

There is a separate Council of Europe Resolution, APRes (2004), on silicone materials for food contact. The resolution defines the silicone product group being comprised of silicone rubbers, silicone liquids, silicone pastes and silicone resins. Blends of silicone rubber with organic polymers are covered by the resolution where the silicone monomer units are the predominant species by weight. Silicones that are used as food additives or processing aids (e.g. as defoamers in the manufacture of substances such as wine) are not covered by this resolution, but polysiloxanes used as emulsifiers are. The resolution gives an overall migration limit of 10 mg/dm of the surface area of the product or material, or 60 mg/kg of food. There are restrictions on the types of monomers that can be used to produce the silicone polymers and there is an inventory list Technical document No. 1 - List of substances used in the manufacture of silicone used for food contact applications . [Pg.280]

The preparation of silicone psas was first disclosed in the mid 1950s when it was observed that blends of silicone resins and polydimethylsiloxane gums (PDMS) produced a material with pressure sensitive adhesive properties (i.e., tack and adhesion under low application pressure). By 1956 a versatile process for the preparation of silicone resins suitable for use in silicone psas was described (6). Rapid progress in the preparation and application of silicone psas was observed from this point to the present. [Pg.258]

Silicones and related blends of silicones and other materials are among the most popular types of air release agents in use in liquid resin compounding. A typical base for defoaming is alcohol/silicone. However, one must be careful when using silicone defoamers. The presence of the silicone could cause a surface on the part that will not be amenable to coatings or adhesives. [Pg.129]

Silicon-containing materials are expensive, however, and consequently copolymers or blends of silicones with acrylate, epoxy or urethanes are very often used to save costs. Recent reports have been made of innovative ways to design thermal-resistant coatings for example, titanium esters in combination with aluminum flakes have been incorporated into binders that resist temperatures up to 400 °C. Above this temperature burn off occurs and a complex coating of titanium-aluminum is formed that deposits on the substrate and enhances thermal resistance up to 800 C [30]. [Pg.7]
