AST/SGOT

Paclitaxel Peripheral neuropathy (DLT), nausea/vomiting, alopecia, hypersensitivity reactions Use caution with any elevation in AST (SGOT). Give proper dosing for liver dysfunction. Premedicate dexamethasone, diphenhydramine, and cimetidine. [Pg.1392]

Myocardial infarction occurs when the blood supply to the heart muscle is blocked for an extended time. If this lack of blood supply, called ischemia, is prolonged, the myocardium suffers irreversible cell damage and muscle death, or infarction. When this happens, the concentration of cardiac enzymes in the blood rises dramatically as the dead cells release their contents into the bloodstream. Although many enzymes are liberated, three are of prime importance. These three enzymes, creatine phosphokinase (CPK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and aspartate aminotransferase/serum glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (AST/SGOT), show a characteristic sequential rise in blood serum level following myocardial infarction and then return to normal. This enzyme profile, shown in the ac-... [Pg.615]

GPT (ALT) is localized in the cytosol, GOT (AST) localizes to both cytosol and mitochondria and is more abundant in liver cells than SGPT. In conditions that damage the entire liver (e.g., cirrhosis, hypoxia, tumor) SGOT levels are relatively higher than SGPT levels. However, in liver conditions that mainly affect the cell membrane (e.g. viral hepatitis) SGPT levels are relatively higher, as the cytosol enzymes, rather than mitochondrial enzymes leak out. [Pg.70]

Emesis may be indicated in recent substantial ingestion unless the patient is or could rapidly become obtunded, comatose, or convulsing. It is most effective if initiated within 30 min. Eor activated char-coal/cathartic, a charcoal slurry, aqueous or mixed with saline cathartic or sorbitol, should be administered. A baseline complete blood count (CBC), electrolytes, and renal and hepatic function test should be obtained. Urine should be tested for protein, RBCs, and myoglobin. Urine output should be monitored. LDH, SGOT (AST), and alkaline phosphatase should... [Pg.2517]

Abbreviations ALT, alanine aminotransferase AST, aspartate aminotransferase CYP, cytochrome P GST, glutathione-L-transferase SGOT, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase SGPT, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase. [Pg.95]

Alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase are the modern versions of older names. ALT was formally known as serum glutamic pyruvate transaminase (SPGT), and AST was formally known as serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT). [Pg.859]

Aspartate transaminase (AST) or the equivalent serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and alanine transaminase (ALT) or the equivalent serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) are useful indicators of liver conditions such as alcoholic liver disease (Cohen and Kaplan, 1979). A multiplexed, paper-based microfluidic assay designed for quick, semiquantitative measurement of AST and ALT in a hn-ger-stick specimen has been tested clinically (Pollock et al., 2012). Such paper-based techniques have also been supplemented by optical detection (Swanson et al., 2015). Microfluidic channels combined with electrochemical sensors have also used to measure ALT and AST (Song et al., 2009). [Pg.260]
