Certain catalytic systems based on the use of cobalt and molybdenum offer good resistance to sulfur. On the other hand, they cannot guarantee advanced conversion of carbon monoxide, of which a few per cent remain in the effluent obtained. Their value resides in the simplification of the purification schemes for effluents produced by the partial oxidation or sulfur-containing feeds. This is because they do not require prior removal of hydrogen sulfide, which can be removed subsequently in a single arid gas separation.

The choice of reactor temperature, pressure, arid hence phase must, in the first instance, take account of the desired equilibrium and selectivity effects. If there is still freedom to choose between gas and liquid phase, operation in the liquid phase is preferred.

Low- arid Medium-Temperature Coke (773 to 1023 K or 932 to 1382°F.) Cokes of this type are no longer produced in the United States to a significant extent. However, there is some interest in low-temperature carbonization as a source of both hydrocarbon liquids and gases to supplement petroleum and natural-gas resources. 

This temperature is called the normal boiling point of water. If the container were to be opened, some of the gas molecules would escape. To replace the missing water, the phase change represented by Eq. 2.4 would be driven toward the products until all of the liquid water evaporated. The direct transition from the solid to the gaseous phase is termed sublimation. Ice will sublime under arid conditions, especially in polar climates.

The later US portable unit carried arid fired by one man is described by Fisher (Ref 6, p 51). It weighs 70 lbs and consists of two interconnected fuel tanks (2 gals capacity each) with a pressure tank (containing either nitrogen or air) placed between them. The pressure of the gas in the middle tank is such that it can eject the fuel with a pressure of 2000 psi. The so-called "gun system", which resembles a Browning pistol in appearance, consists of a trigger, an ignition head, and a hose to convey fuel from... 

The fundamental approach used was that of hydrodynamics to obtain solutions of equations for the conservation of mass, momentum arid energy. It is convenient to express these equations in vector notation and to consider small amplitude waves separately from waves of finite amplitude. The collection volume (0 = 12mm, length=100 mm) is made of an Aluminium cylinder arid connected to the main stainless capillary. It is placed in the middle of the He pressurized reaction chamber and He gas is fed through a temperature controled bubbler. Diffusion pump aerosols were mainly used in the experiments reported here.
