Lithium titanate

Enhanced anti-corrosion properties are also reportedly achieved by mill additions of lithium titanate, lithium aluminate or magnesium titanate to the host glass frit . [Pg.904]

Finally, NMR has also be used to study other spinels materials that do not contain manganese. For example, the intercalation/deintercalation of lithium titanate spinels such as Li4/3+Ji5/304 and Lii.i-Tii.904+a have been investigated. These materials may be used as anode materials in combination with cathodes operating at 4 V (vs Li) to produce cells with potentials of ca. 2.5 V. These materials are either diamagnetic or metallic, and unlike the mangan-ates, only very small differences in shifts are seen for Li in the different sites of the spinel structure. Nonetheless, these shift differences are enough to allow the concentrations of the different sites to be quantified and monitored following insertion of Li or as a function sample preparation method. ... [Pg.265]

Solids in which different kinds of atoms occupy structurally equivalent sites have also defect structures. Thus mixed crystals, say of sodium and potassium chlorides (Fig. 99), are examples of defect lattices of this kind. Lithium titanate, LigTiOg, has a rock-salt structure in which cation sites are... [Pg.152]

Lithium titanate could be prepared by using a sealed tube method. As the alkali metals can react with glass, the tube must be coated with graphite by decomposition of an organic solvent on the surface. Then a mixture of lithium oxide and titanium dioxide could be weighed out in a glove box, placed in the tube and the tube evacuated. Once sealed off, the whole tube could be heated in a furnace. Alternatively, a mixture of lithium carbonate (in excess) and titanium dioxide could be pressed into pellets and heated. The required excess of lithium carbonate would have to be determined by trial and error. [Pg.192]

Any type of acoustic transducer, such as quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) or surface acoustic wave device (SAW), is fundamentally based on the piezoelectric effect. This was first described in 1880 by Jacques and Pierre Curie as a property of crystalline materials that do not have an inversion centre. When such a material is subjected to physical stress, a measurable voltage occurs on the crystal surfaces. Naturally, the opposite effect can also be observed, i.e. applying an electrical charge on a piezoelectric material leads to mechanical distortion, the so-called inverse piezo effect. These phenomena can be used to transfrom an electrical signal to a mechanical one and back, which actually happens in QCM and SAW. Different materials are ap-pHed for device fabrication, such as quartz, Hthium tantalate, lithium titanate... [Pg.175]

In order to avoid the problems associated with the instability of the n-doping process of the polymer, it has been proposed to replace the n-doped polymer at the negative electrode with a carbon electrode to form the so-called hybrid capacitor [22, 33, 40]. Such hybrid capacitors with a p-doped polythiophene derivative as the positive electrode and activated carbon as the negative electrode were found to outperform double-layer carbon capacitors in terms of specific power while maintaining good performance cyclability over 10000 cycles [40]. Another asymmetric hybrid capacitor has been built using a lithium titanate (Li4Ti50i2) intercalation anode, instead of a carbon electrode and PFPT electrode [35]. [Pg.591]
