The availability of downloadable forms, files, permits, and publications with the URL for the download area and information on the formats used to determine if one will require any special software, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader for ".pdf files at Microsoft Word for ".doc files, etc. 

Adobe Acrobat Reader is software that permits users to view, navigate, search, and print Adobe PDF tiles on major computer platforms. The software is free and available from Adobe Systems Web site. Although useful, the Reader does not support all the functionality that OPP s reviewers require. For the pilots, OPP purchased Adobe Acrobat, Version 4.0, to support the review of studies submitted as PDF files. Adobe Acrobat permits review, mark-up, annotation, and extraction of text and tables for editing or other manipulations, in addition to basic viewing, navigation, and printing capabilities. 

PDF stands for Portable Document Format, which is an open document description language created by Adobe Systems Inc. PDF files have several advantages over RTF and ASCII text files ... 

PDF files can be read with the free Adobe Reader. You do not have to purchase a word processing package to open PDF files. 

If you need to repeatedly regenerate your PDF file, as is often the case in clinical trial reporting, it is easier to integrate PostScript files into a single PDF file with an automated scripted process such as the one listed above. Integrating multiple PDF files into a single PDF file is possible, but it is a manual process within Adobe Acrobat.

To submit electronically a request for a meeting or teleconference, the sponsor should use the Request for a Meeting or Teleconference form provided by the CVM (Form FDA 34895 OMB No. 0910-0452). Full-Text Index You should provide an index of the full text and the Document Information fields of all documents in this folder. You should name the index definition file admin.pdx. You should place all associated index files in the admin index folder. You should place admin.pdx definition file and the admin index folder in the admin folder. You should associate the XXXX admintoc.pdf file with the index file so that whenever the TOC file is opened, the associated index is automatically added to the available index list. This will facilitate the use of the search function in Adobe Acrobat. The function enables a reviewer to enter a specific word and search the document for that word s location throughout the documents covered by the indexes loaded at the time. Index files and folders do not have numerical prefixes because they are intended to be cumulative. They should be updated each time an amendment is submitted to the IND. 

Protocol and Protocol Revisions (amendments) You should provide each protocol in a separate PDF file in a subfolder labeled Protocols. To help us easily identify the file, use the protocol number as part of the file name. Each protocol should have a TOC. You should hypertext link and bookmark the TOC. For protocol revisions or amendments, you should use the same protocol number that identifies the original protocol. You should submit to tie file a complete copy of any revised protocol. This will facilitate the use of the text compare function in Adobe Acrobat by our clinical reviewers. 

It is important to understand why authors are asked to provide manuscripts as both word-processing and PDF files. Users with appropriate system privileges must be able to view documents. Typically, documents to be viewed in an EDMS are presented as read-only files, either in the authoring application or a standard immutable file format such as TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) or Adobe s portable document format (PDF). By virtue of its flexibility and platform-independence, PDF has become the storage standard in contemporary electronic document management systems. Most systems will automatically create PDF files and provide the PDF rendition in response to a user view request. 

The Electroanalytical Chemistry Commission, which is a subdivision of the Analytical Chemistry Division of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (lUPAC), provides authoritative guidance on nomenclature, terminologies, symbols, units, and procedures used in electroanalytical chemistry.
